Having gone to high school then and having a memory like a steel .. uh .. coffee can? I'm gonna have to reluctantly go with "Do You Believe in Love?" by Huey Lewis... .. at the time, everyone loved that song - it was kinda jockrock, kinda new wave, very American, played at every party ... The fact that it wasn't in the movie is completely irrelevant.

Doesn't Sammy Hagar's title track do it?

Don't forget "Fast Times (The Best Years of Our Lives)" by Billy Squier. It plays under the scene at the football game where Jefferson (Forrest Whitaker) hurts all those guys who he thinks trashed his Camaro. One of my favorite scenes.

I can't see why it wouldn't be "Moving in Stereo". I mean, that's one of the (if not the) most memorable scenes from the film. Also, the Cars brand of new wave synth-driven rock is perfectly evocative of that whole era.

Did anybody see the episode of "Alias" a couple weeks back where they had an imitation of this scene? It was great. Not that I ever watch "Alias". It was on after the Pro Bowl or something like that.
