To those four-eyes like me who wear headphones

When I put my phones on and I'm wearing my glasses, the former always presses down on the hooky parts of the latter and onto some bony parts of my head. It doesn't always hurt right away, but if I leave 'em on for like more than a couple hours, it gets quite painful and I have to tilt my entire glasses in a way so that they're not pressed in by the phones. How do the rest of you nerds combat this? (nb. I am not dissatisfied with my solution, just curious about other methods.)

You need some more head fat. I recommend bacon.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 2 March 2003 06:07 (twenty-two years ago)

don't wear headphones for "more than a couple of hours"!!

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 2 March 2003 06:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Someone (probably me) stepped on my headphone jack and broke the plug, so now I only get the left channel and it's kinda staticky and not worth bothering with. This might not work for you, though.

don't wear headphones for "more than a couple of hours"!!

no no no, leave the headphone on...what're you doing that needs glasses?

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 2 March 2003 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I wear the headphones that fit inside your ears.

Ryan McKay (Ryan McKay), Sunday, 2 March 2003 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Get the absurdly large ones meant strickly for ardkore deejays and audiophile hi-fi heshers 'cause they've got lots and lots of soft padding around the cans (the headphones, not the deejays, though I'm guessing the heshers do too) and therefore will not hurt as much. Plus you have the advantage of looking like a total retard whenever you walk down the street.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Sunday, 2 March 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

There's an advantage.

I solve my problem by not listening to anything via my headphones until it's late at night and I'm not wearing my glasses anyway because I'm usually about to go to bed.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 2 March 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Nate you get of your house with one of those big-ass headphones?!

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Sunday, 2 March 2003 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I RIDE THE BUS with those huge-ass headphones. I used to wear regular-sized ones but people kept approaching me asking me what time it was or if I had spare change and I figured "well maybe they couldn't tell that I am TRYING TO BLOCK OUT THE OUTSIDE WORLD HERE so maybe I should make it MORE OBVIOUS."

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Sunday, 2 March 2003 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

(Actually the huge-ass ones are worn mostly for the advantage that you can wear them over a knit cap pulled over your ears)

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Sunday, 2 March 2003 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

wich is even more freaky if i got the sentence right

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Sunday, 2 March 2003 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I like wearing my fat-ass headphones cuz it solves the earmuff/tuque dilemma. and also, that whole shutting out the world bit, but annoying people are persistent, and none too clever.

Get the absurdly large ones meant strickly for ardkore deejays

Most DJs I've met seem to prefer either the classic Sony MDR-7506 Studio Monitors or the somewhat more comfortable/stable MDR-700's. Lots of padding and completely closed.

Siegbran (eofor), Sunday, 2 March 2003 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I got MDR-V150s, which are probably in the same neighborhood but are only $20. The bad thing is the cord is something like 4 feet long.

I have big'uns already with the padding.

what're you doing that needs glasses?

Everything. I'm blind with me specs.

Leee (Leee), Sunday, 2 March 2003 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Blind without me specs is obviously what I meant to say.

Leee (Leee), Sunday, 2 March 2003 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I wear the in-ear (earbud) type headphones for just that reason - although it's hard to find a pair with good bass response.

o. nate (onate), Sunday, 2 March 2003 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

My walkman headphones for the bus don't hurt my glasses. My big headphones do, but like Ned I only used them when going to sleep (back when I had roommates not to wake, now I don't bother with headphones for sleeping listening) or when using the four-track, in which case I usually just take off my glasses (I can see decent enough).

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 2 March 2003 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I pull the crooky-pieces of my spectacles that go behind my ears and put on the big fat headphones and then rest the crooky-pieces on top of the headphones.

I tried just not wearing them, which is still preferred for just listening, but when I'm recording, I needs me eyes so I can see which knob I'm twidling or to read the lyric sheet or something not quite so cool as that.

one year passes...

Sennheiser PX100/200's have really tiny earcups that fit snugly and don't disturb the glasses arms. I personally only use them for noisey situations though (don't rate them that much).

Cheap and lovely for indoor use are Koss KSC-35's these are clip on's (I hardly even realise I'm wearing them).

If you've got money to spend though go for the some of the serious audiophile fatties mentioned above I reckon.
