I think there's actually a lot more music by Gil Scott-Heron that I'd be interested in listening to than there is by Laurie Anderson. It's not entirely a fair comparison, though, since Anderson's work is so multi-media. I remember seeing an exhibition of her works, some involving sound, at Philadelphia's ICA a long time ago and being favorably impressde overall, but I haven't liked any recordings I've heard by her for many years.

(Maybe Charlie Morrow was right: she should have done more with the tape-bow violin and not gone for such an epic scale. Or maybe he was just envious of her bank account.)

Wow --- great thread. As much as I love Mz. Anderson, GSH simply has more tunes. Pieces of a Man trumps Big Science by a country mile, tho' Anderson is refreshingly free of righteous indignation....which gets a bit tiring in GSH's work.
