the short answer is yes, with an if. the long answer is no, with a but.

i'd imagine so but i haven't read it for about 15 years

I'm becoming convinced that no-one has EVER read the NME, and in fact it was created as a marketing tool by Mean Fiddler with the aim of selling more vegeburgers back in 1986.

they like(d?) the strokes hence this question rendered null and void.

No. But you are more likely to suck in if NME likes you in 2003 than you were if they liked you in 1995...

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 3 March 2003 02:24 (twenty-three years ago)

If the NME employs you, you automatically suck.

If the NME employs you, you automatically suck.

Close to the truth, yes...

Q and Mojo, however, are mags that I respect a lot.

Everybody believes what they're told to
Everybody believes what they read in the N M E

Believing this seems no more nor less foolish than believing that the NME liking you makes you terrific.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 3 March 2003 21:59 (twenty-three years ago)

martin skidmore is right. it likes good stuff and bad stuff. it liked ILM's album of the year "OPM" for starters, so i don't know how people here could say everything the NME likes is shit. it's not what you like that makes a magazine good, though. if they could discuss what they liked more interestingly, and less childishly, it would be a good mag.

actually, the white stripes review in the recent issue is quite good. i don't even like the white stripes, but i still thought it was quite interesting for an NME review. more of this, please.

However, knowing that if NME likes you, then they will hate you in a month or two, is definitely useful wisdom for young musical talents...
