There IS some relatively new music I like after all: it's just not particularly pop oriented

Recent pop is mostly not doing it for me (aside from salsa, and by no means do I think all of that is good either--but I do find a lot of it I like). But I realized lately that people like Fred Frith, for example, are still doing things that interest me. New Traditions in East Asian Bar Bands is the first Zorn album I've really liked, which gives me some hope. These may not be particularly new artists, but they are still doing adventurous work. (More to the point: they aren't dead yet.) I like the Boredoms reasonably well, maybe enough to buy something by them. The new stuff I like often seems to fall on the fringes of indie or progressive, even though the overwhelming bulk of music in both categories doesn't interest me much.
