does anybody know where i can find documented proof that X refused to perform "Johnny Hit And Run Paulene" live at a certain point in their careers? i just need something i can cite.

Yeah, I remember reading about that but I can't recall where it was. They said some knuckleheads in the audience misinterpreted it as a pro-rape song. But when I saw a reunion show a couple of years ago in Boston, they opened with it.
I hear PJ Harvey covers it now.

Yeah, that was a bit dumb, so it's probably not to be trusted. Only one I could find that actually mentioned that the band had stopped playing it though.

In a PBS special about the history o'rock John Doe says about the song that the jarheads in their audience would pump their fists in agreement, and didn't understand that the songs was an anti-rape song. "So we don't play that one anymore."
Side note: I think the live version they do in the Spheris film is actually better than the studio version. Who's with me on this one?
