Geir, if you don't mind me asking, how old are you?

Nick A. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 13:47 (twenty-three years ago)

The only overlap with my top ten is Wilco. That's probably why that album got voted #1 at pazz&jopp. It is the lowest common denominator...

The Beck and Flaming Lips ones are also in most end-of-year surveys, while Coldplay and Doves are at least in most British end-of-year survyes.

Where's Interpol?

Where's Interpol?

At #1 in my Amazon recommendations. Should I take the hint? :-)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Sunday, 9 March 2003 23:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Geir, do you ever think this project might be a mite self-important?

Hatebreed is the only thing that stands out as a WTF moment; other than that I still like my list five years later although I wound up liking a lot MORE from that year that I didn't listen to/own/appreciate at the time (at least that's my excuse although I might have just fucked up and left them off!) including:

1349 - Liberation
Agalloch - The Mantle
Antimatter - Saviour
Hot Hot Heat - Make Up the Breakdown
Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness (wasn't listening to as much black metal then)
Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights (yeah, I never got this until a few years later!)
Isis - Oceanic
Johnny Cash - American IV: The Man Comes Around
Ladytron - Light & Magic
Mastodon - Remission (how did this miss but In Flames made it?!?)
Mclusky - Mclusky Do Dallas (I got this years later and it's now one of my faves of all time)
Naked City - Live Volume 1: Knitting Factory 1989
Nightwish - Century Child
Nile - In Their Darkened Shrines
Reverend Bizarre - In the Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend (the American re-release years later)
RJD2 - Deadringer
Sage Francis - Personal Journals
Satyricon - Volcano (the American release later)
The Berzerker - Dissimulate
The Black Keys - The Big Come Up
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
The Streets - Original Pirate Material (picked up on this when I started at the record store the following year)
Tom Waits - Alice
Ulver - Lyckantropen Themes
Virgin Black - Sombre Romantic (I got into The End's stuff way late apparently)

2002 was a good fucking year!

2002 was still probably the best music year of the entire 00s. At least if you go by actual music that was released that year and not look to much at the mainstream.
