I don't listen to electro!

Kittin and Hacker; anyone who says otherwise is probably doing it more because they dislike Kittin and Hacker than because they're particularly fond of Quintron and Pussycat.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 18:26 (twenty-three years ago)

What if they're only pretending to dislike Kittin and Hacker?

hstencil, Wednesday, 5 March 2003 18:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Damn synthists.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 18:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Gumph.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 18:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I really like Quintron's live show.... if I knew what MK+tH sounded like...

Jon Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 18:32 (twenty-three years ago)

(Naw, Stencil, I think what I mean is ... this could be like one of those threads where you say "Taking Sides: Dave Matthews Band versus _______" and depending on what you put in the blank the whole thing will still be more of a referendum on DMB than an actual "taking sides." I dunno, it was always my impression that even people who really liked Quintron / Pussycat / Tracheotomy didn't really love them but just found them interesting ... but I could be wrong!)

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 18:34 (twenty-three years ago)

toktok + soffy O dammit!

kitten + goldenboy is better than kitten + hacker

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 18:40 (twenty-three years ago)

You could indeed be wrong. Go to Jim Magas's Weekend record store on Division to meet a man who loves both!

hstencil, Wednesday, 5 March 2003 18:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Stencil, we've talking about this before: I know Jim and go to Weekend all the time! Anyway he's biased by knowing them. Plus the same five Quintron and Pussycat discs have been sitting in that store for ages, whereas Kitten and Hacker stuff actually moves in and out.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 19:11 (twenty-three years ago)

(By the way, have you heard the new Magas full-length? I think copies are just getting around: it's lots of fun, better than I expected from Bad Blood.)

Also I'm with Tracer: Soffy O my goodness.

Oh Popular = Good, silly me!

Jon Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 19:14 (twenty-three years ago)

i dunno.... Dungeon MASTER MAKE ME GO faster!

(but on the other hand, while i haven't heard kittin with hacker... i do like kitten with felix da house cat... "sex, drugs, rock and roll, it's over. it's over. i decide it's over." i love that shit too.)

Dear Jon,

Reading properly can be your friend: you'll note that discussion had moved on to the topic of who liked the records. "Popular" = people like it.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 20:31 (twenty-three years ago)

In any case, I feel like Quintron and Pussycat are a bit too prone to the New Orleans-style visual schtick and performance art oddity, often at the expense of being very interesting as a musical project. I don't like the Hacker's stuff with Miss Kittin as much as I like Golden Boy's, but when they're really on together the results tend to be fantastic in both senses, the musical one, but also with its own dashes of fantasy stage-play.

I say this, however, having never really enjoyed acts where a great deal of the pleasure is to marvel at the amazingly oddball thing they're doing on stage -- I certainly can enjoy elements of this in things, but in and of itself it tends to turn me off a bit.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 20:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, I heard that Hatebreed's last LP entered the Billboard top 40 so it must be AMAZING

Jon Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 20:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes Jon, either that or people must like it.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 20:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Quintron and Pussycat; anyone who says otherwise is probably doing it more because they dislike Quintron and Pussycat than because they're particularly fond of Kittin and Hacker.

hstencil, Wednesday, 5 March 2003 21:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So, it comes down to a matter of personal opinion? There is no right answer??

Jon Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 21:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Shhh, Jon, don't say that! ILM might explode!

hstencil, Wednesday, 5 March 2003 21:10 (twenty-three years ago)

*whistles idly*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 21:11 (twenty-three years ago)

But clearly, since Miss Kittin is more popular, it is better!!!!

In other news, the United States is a Christian nation!

Taking Sides: Speculative Opinions about the Nature of Fan Groups vs. Dick who doesn't Listen

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 22:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I mean, Christ: I offer the general opinion (about which "I could be wrong") that this particular Taking Sides works mostly as a referendum on whether people like Miss Kittin and the Hacker, because it's my personal sense that even people who like Quintron (of which I count myself one) like him more as an entertaining diversion than a full-on favorite. Stencil notes that Magas likes both; I joke that the Quintron discs in Magas' store get smiled at a lot more than they get picked up. Somehow this means I think something's better because it sells. Seriously, Jon, if you disagree about the way Quintron's fan base appreciates him, can we please talk about that, instead of making cute retorts to things people never claimed in the first place?

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 22:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Or actually: nevermind. I am trying to have less stupid arguments, so I'll just apologize for any perceived snarkiness in that first post and move along.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 23:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Quintron & Miss Pussycat's best 30 seconds beat Miss Kitten & Hacker's best 30 seconds. Plus, the puppet show is always a crowd pleaser.

TS: Hatebreed vs. Q & Miss P

max (maxreax), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 20:23 (nineteen years ago)

Miss Kittin's solo material is so awful.

Machibuse '80 (ex machina), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 21:02 (nineteen years ago)

flossie and the unicorns aren't all that fantastic either
(i still vote Q&P though)

Fetchboy (Felcher), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 21:14 (nineteen years ago)

i'd still take F&P over another eurotrash electroclasher
