I don't know so much about Billy May, i know he did lots of arrangements for just about everyone, but beyond that

i love the soundtrack to Johnny Cool (dont have it with me, anyone got mp3?)

all I know is he did arrangements for much of Stan Freberg's stuff. Which all by itself puts him high in some vinyl pantheon or other. Unless that, too, is some obscure British putdown.

Read Friedwald's book on Sinatra, "The Song is You," for a great breakdown of the diff. between the various arrangers who worked w/the Chairman.

He does a great job as pitchman for OxyClean, too.

Always perfered Anita O'Day's trio (and small group) work, but Billy did a fine job supporting her on a couple of orchestrated albums. But like his work with Sinatra, Billy assumes a strict supporting-role, and thusly, the music is typically devoid of any real fireworks.
