I'm intrigued by this - anyone heard them? I'm a sucker for family bands...

Where does shiney mcwhiney find the time? And what does she play?

Can't be enjoyed completely without visualization, but the songs are pretty strong on their own.

any official releases / website / downloads? a friend of mine is opening for them on tour I think...

The songs are surprisingly strong on their own! There is a CD release somewhere, though I have no clue about its distribution. They should really do a CD- or DVD-ROM with just the slide shows running with the music.

worth checking out despite any potential child labor law suits.

I was hoping one of them would be Michelle Trachtenburg - aka - Nona Mecklenburg - aka Iggy Pop's daughter.

three months pass...
They're playing nearby - should I see 'em? Will it be the best thing ever, or will I cringe (i.e. clever idea/bad execution)? I'm leaning towards going, at this point.

From the website:
We take people's vintage slides that we purchase at estate and yard sales and turn them into pop rock exposes. A concept, that if applied correctly, will change the future of entertainment.

I've seen a couple of songs they've done on TV shows, and it's very smart and cute and enjoyable... but as stated elsewhere, the schtick will certainly be up once the kid enters puberty, which has to be soon.

I saw them on Conan O'Brien. It was pretty amusing, although I'm not sure if the entertainment value would hold up over an entire evening. But it did piss off a friend of mine whose cultural tastes I consider to be the worst within my social circle, and it's a general rule of thumb that everything he vehemently hates has to have some redeeming value to it. Take that however you want.

one year passes...
A friend of mine who caught them at their Edinburgh Festival stint is raving about them ("but you need to have a lot of patience" he added - whatever that means). They're playing in London on Saturday. Any one else seen them recently? Worth a look?

Arse. I was supposed to go and see them last night an d forgot. Bugger.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

man, i hate the idea. shouldnt that girl be outside playing or hanging out with friends her age, instead of playing drums late at night in smoke-filled clubs with a bunch of assholes, including her dad, whose obnoxiously snarky, "subversive" politics cant help but make her a little less childlike, and a little more fucking closed-minded?

peter smith (plsmith), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

one word: tedious! Seemed like a decent enough idea though ...

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the records a lot better than the live show, because they have actual musicians playing on them. The live show is unlistenable, even if the slide shows add something you don't get on the record . . . but leaving it up to your imagination is fine too.

No way, it’s a fantastic show. Really funny and charming. The playing isn’t awe-inspiring, but I actually liked it better than on the CD because it’s much more wild and rawking. I really recommend the live show, it’s magnificent fun.

I've seen them once, and the interplay between the daughter-drummer and the dad (which couldn't have been planned) was priceless.
