your precious you anyone knows of them?

Sorry, I already posted something similar to the last Loveless thread but nobody responded. There are four tracks to download from their site (guess the name!). They sound like a mixture of Smashing Pumpkins (esp. the singer's voice on "Like This"), Catherine Wheel (esp. on "Wake") and MBV (with maybe some Idaho influence). And they sound almost better than those groups (and I think Smashing Pumpkins debut "Gish" is still one of the most underrated records). Especially "Wake" is amazing. Phantastic walls of sound (not Phil Spector). They use a lot of droning and when listening on the headphones I really got addicted. Does anybody know where to buy albums of Your Precious You? I read they released two records: "Painkiller EP" and "Test Pattern". Amazon and Ebay did not have anything when I checked. Any info would be welcome.

great group. just listened to the mp3's. please anyone could contribute!

just to get this going, Wednesday, 27 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Josh, here's another one for the hype folder...

Nicole, Wednesday, 27 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's an embarrassment of riches, Nicole.

Josh, Wednesday, 27 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

So I must be an idiot, because it's not obvious to me where the band's site would be. The options I'd have thought to be most likely are either unoccupied or dating services; a Google search for "you precious you" turned up what appeared to be lots of (a) wedding albums, and (b) pedophilic fiction (including "Nicole Becomes a Submissive Cheerleader," which is just bad given that (c) I'm at work).

I'm sure a few minutes poking around could answer this question, but in the interest of not guiding my browser through embarrassing links, I'm going to just ask.

Nitsuh, Wednesday, 27 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That one's transparent... but if you're trying to get these people to look at your band's website, you'll have to use stronger bait that Smashing Pumpkins, man. Not interested, thanks...

andy, Wednesday, 27 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But Andy, it's tailormade! Take a leaf out of this guy's book and advertise your next Lookout release as 'a mixture of Green Day (esp. the singer's voice), the Alkaline Trio and the Donnas (with maybe some Screeching Weasel).' They'll all beat a path to your door...knock it down, find you and kill you. On second thought, don't do that.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am a little disappointed about this thread. This is not my band. Their site is www.yourpreciousyou.com . I guess that is not too hard to guess. I do not remember where I got the info about the band from. Somehow internet-related. Especially Josh's comment really hurts. I just love music like you do. Something else concerning ILM. This site becomes less and less useful. Why is there no search on this site? It is almost impossible to find if there has been already an old thread on a certain theme. I alway try to use Google. But apparently they did not index the whole site. So please to make this a better place on the internet install a search!!!

alex in mainhattan, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm sorry, Alex. I already told you via email that I was joking. I think it's fair to say that your two posts do look a bit like "hype" posts from a record company employee, or whatever. That's not to say that it is.

Greenspun is free and did what Tom wanted well enough; I suppose that's why he chose it. Unfortunately, though, whether or not there is a search is Greenspun's perogative, not ours. (It is backed by a database, so they could easily add a search, I suspect, but it could also easily render their nice free server unavailable.) So there's nothing that can be done about that, barring a server move, to an entirely different board hosting system. Sentiments expressed on I Love Everything when such a move was suggested were mostly in favor of sticking with Greenspun's simplicity.

Josh, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Also, there's a slight delay in "being Googled." That's why Google only finds things on ILM older than a certain date from the time you search.

Josh, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hi Josh, Thanks for your answers. Tell me do you never go to bed? Here in Germany it is 8.40 am. It must be something like 3am where you live. Anyways did you listen to Your Precious You? I really think it is worth it. I must have been a record company employee in a previous life :)

Alexander Fritz, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It was around 2 AM here when you posted. My normal bedtime is between 3 and 4, and I've been waking up between 9 and 11. So yes, I do go to sleep. ;)

I haven't even gotten to the Negresses Vertes yet! I will try "tomorrow" though, it's actually about time for me to sleep now. :)

Josh, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Jeez, where is doompatrol when you need him? I mean, here is someone who is IN A BAND, who THINKS THEY IS KEWL, and doompatrol hasn't stepped in to start taking the word to the street all over ILM? Dammit, oh for the old days where this sort of behaviour would start a flamewar.

Lookout Records? Are them the folks that all of Canadia was told that we was on cause of some programming director's typoon about the name of our EP? We should sue!

masonic boom, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Kate, you poseur, thinkin' your so special because you're in a band...Let me tell you, you're crap! That's what I told Alan the other day. This music just doesn't have soul, man. It's made by scenesters, who could never make the kind of music with the passion of a band that Alan has told me is cool to like.

Will this do?

Nicole, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh Nicole, where is the love???????? No love! I want the love!

Sorry. I know, I should be insulting Kate with regular intensity but I'm in the midst of book things, my don't go in the woods website...and well...I GOT MARRIED!

doompatrol23@hotmail.com, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Blimey, and you didn't invite us.

Tom, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Very close, Nicole, but you should be directing it at Alex up there.

masonic boom, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No Tom but I saw your name in a magazine. You got thanked for something, when I was in Montreal last weekend...

DOOMPATROL23@HOTMAIL.COM, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Alright:

Terrible name, you precious you. Is the lead singer's name Lucy????? And the description accurately describes getting sick at a Rush Concert.

Arrggh.

Why is there so much bad rock in the world?

doompatrol23@hotmail.com, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Q: "Why is there so much bad rock in the world?"
(poss) A: Cuz there aren't enuff critix0r?

mark s, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nah..I blame independant labels and major labels.

Independant Labels: Any middle class public school twat can be in a band for twenty dollars...

Major Labels: I'll change my 'musical vision' cause it's all about the benjamins baby.

arrgghh..

But of course, there is never enough Momus albums in the world. Oh benevolent Momus, give me your wisdom so I can make it through this rush concert....

Please...

doompatrol23@hotmail.com, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually, doompatrol's right : Freaky Trigger was mentioned in Shift magazine over here - one of Tom's articles specifically, don't remember which one.

Patrick, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mind you Tom, I read the magazine and I was flushed with embarrassment for you.

Arrggghhh....

The whole 'sex and the city' phenemon of over 35 writers who think everyone is very interested in their sex life.

Arrgghh....

Makes me wish for the fifties....a pure vigilant time, almost victorian.

doompatrol23@hotmail.com, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh dear lord, what have I done? Remember the goth thread (I mean, erm, Wailing Sax Solos) and the black-garbed denizens of the night who were CALLED INTO BEING by the opening notes of Bela Lugosi's Dead?

masonic boom, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh Kate...

You flatter me so! You should not have done your siren wails of acoustic renditions of Momus' songs...you know that always works!

doompatrol23@hotmail.com, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm always keen to read mentions of me, *particularly* in the context of loads of people talking about their sex lives. If any Canadians can quote me this, the e-mail's below. Cheers.

Tom, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Who knows, you may have already slept with Josey Vogels and not realized it??????

More Momus...I need Momus!

doompatrol23@hotmail.com, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Careful, Tom, you're about two heartbeats away from reaching "I have a mate who is mates with someone who knows Tom Ewing" status, there... ;-)

masonic boom, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I had a dream this week that Tom was on the Style Network (US cable channel). It's getting pretty bad when you start having dreams about ILM related matters...

Nicole, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Did I have my beard?

"Style Network": transcendentally unlikely.

Tom, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No, actually you looked like what's his name on Angel, forget his name but he's Angel's assistant (Mark will know his name!). The Style Network would be an unlikely place, since it has loads of Martha Stewart programmes and interior decorating, fashion shows, etc...

Nicole, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Do you reckon there's a Style Council that runs the Style Network?

masonic boom, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Josh: I guess this thread can be filed under trash.

The other contributors: May I remind you that there was a subject to this thread? Is there nobody around who knows this bloody group "Your Precious You"? Actually I regret having started this thread.

alex in mainhattan, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tom - I have the magazine at home, I'll check it out when I get back. I don't remember anything sex-related there though.

Patrick, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Angel's assistant who died in schindler's list-type ep who was half demon with sprouty face = doyle ( = also Becky's wastrel boyf in Roseanne) = handsome enuff for jazz. Then the ultra-lame Wesley = dear god i hope not. His fulltime assistant of course = the resting actress-presenter Cordelia aka Charisma Carpenter = rowr in most homes (tho not mine: too thin). Angel now in e4 in contemptible make-em-buy-digital scandal, so NEW assistants, if any, have not yet impinged...

mark s, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No, it was Wesley. I'm really sorry, Tom...

Nicole, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Wesley's lameness was more his manner, to be honest, than his looXor. His earnest and specky Hugh Grant-ishness, shall we say? This isn't getting better, is it?

mark s, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That's probably why I thought Wesley. ;-) They do have this other kid assistant now (I am so bad with names!), who is from the 'hood and helps out from time to time. Kind of like Blade without actually being a vampire himself.

Nicole, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Okay, here's what Shift magazine say in the "plug" section of their current issue - it's a "if you're into this, then try..." format, and fans of Radiohead's Amnesiac are directed to Spiritualized's Lazer Guided Melodies as well as...

"A Strange Fear Gripped Me...": The Rise and Fall of British Alternative Music (www.netcomuk.co.uk/~tewing/ukalt.html)
Tom Ewing is the webmaster of Freaky Trigger, an extensive history of music according to... Tom Ewing. "It's worth bearing in mind that for once I'm trying to be objective," he writes in the introduction to this article, "and especially in the Brit-pop section I may be 'recommending' albums that are, in fact, pants."

Well done, Tom !

BTW, Shift has a web site, but the reference doesn't seem to be on there.

Patrick, Thursday, 28 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That UK alt article is pretty great too, one of my faves by Tom. I need to get me some of those records he's talking about.
