Any opinion of the webb brothers?

Sounds like Evan Dando screaming over a Randy Newman record. Agree/Disgree. Does anyone hear the influence of the famous Jimmy Webb on that record?

I bought it after hearing 'Summer People' on the radio and loving it. I then got the album and disliked it almost immediately except for the afformentioned track (which isn't even written by them, btw). Most of it is just too mid-paced and full of itself without ever reaching the heights of pop greatness they so awfully want.

I lost the case so I had the cd stuck in my player for a couple of months. Wasn't bowled over at first-the vocals are particularly blah-but I grew to really like it. I don't especially hear their father's influence, but maybe it's there somewhere lyrically. It sounds more like a Jason Falkner record to me. A bit of a Replacements influence, too, maybe, in the descriptions of debauched nightlife and such. And Justin's quite a looker.

The Webb brothers are one of my favourites at the moment, they are one of the few bands that i feel are as good live as on record. Also they are really nice people. I think the fact their father is famous shouldnt be considered- why should they sound like him? It's like saying "can you see the influence of the Beatles in Stella McCartneys dresses?"
