Geir threads pawp!

Ween. Somewhere in an alternate universe, another version of Geir has a rabid evil insane sense of humor to match his love of the melody, and that Geir is a Ween fanatic.

MUSIC!

Carole King - Tapestry. Geir you need this album!

Already have it.

Not that good. A bit too Brill Building (as in harmonically over-simple)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 13 March 2003 00:24 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
hey Geir, what do you think of Höst?? I listened to Hardt Mot Hardt last night ... pretty good! Seems like they would be up your alley.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Sunday, 8 January 2006 20:47 (twenty years ago)

I mentioned it on the Fall vs. Wire thread but I don't know if you saw it. You said "Wire, clearly." Have you heard the Fall's first two albums from the nineties, Shift Work and Code: Selfish? Probably their most tuneful and I think you would really like them!

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 8 January 2006 21:01 (twenty years ago)

I think I did the diacritical mark wrong. It's supposed to be the one where the 'O' has a slash through it.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Sunday, 8 January 2006 21:02 (twenty years ago)

does he like the free design?

[tuvan throat singer's profound lyric sheet-must read again] (nordicskilla), Sunday, 8 January 2006 21:13 (twenty years ago)

Chords in the "harmonically over-simple" "It's Too Late": Am7, D6, D13-5, Dm7, Fmaj7, Bbmaj7, Gm7, E7sus4, E7, G7sus4, G7, Cmaj7. We are not talking about a I-IV-V song here, Geir...

Douglas (Douglas), Sunday, 8 January 2006 21:22 (twenty years ago)

Høst was some kind of heavy rock band weren't they? Only heard a song or two, which sounded better and less bluesy than Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple at least.

The Free Design was a bit _too_ soft and nice, I guess. Kind of in the same way that I also find Air and High Llamas.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Sunday, 8 January 2006 22:52 (twenty years ago)

You are an enignma salad inside of a mystery sandwich.

Yes, basically. They tend to be lumped with the prog scene though. They have one really nice song - a twee "ode to a cat" - called "Nattergalen", but most of the rest is pretty forgettable.

Did you ever get around to Caravan, by the way?

Øystein (Øystein), Monday, 9 January 2006 10:39 (twenty years ago)

Caravan is OK, but I wish they'd used more keyboards (including synths). Good prog needs lots of keyboards.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 9 January 2006 13:10 (twenty years ago)

so how do you guys feel about Aunt Mary? Listened to Janus last night ... that's a damn good record.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Monday, 9 January 2006 16:00 (twenty years ago)

I think Geir should like Spoon; their new album should have been on his "best of 2005" but wasn't.

National Roffle Association (Paul in Santa Cruz), Monday, 9 January 2006 16:08 (twenty years ago)

Aunt Mary = boring R&B with exaggerated "soulful" vocals.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 9 January 2006 16:34 (twenty years ago)

yeah maybe, but there are good melodies on the later record!! Damn, I just can't win with you Geir. you are one tough customer. Where is your Norwegian pride?

Stormy Davis (diamond), Monday, 9 January 2006 17:01 (twenty years ago)

I am not a fan of hard rock. Also I am not a fan of anything that is too obviously influenced by the Blues

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 9 January 2006 19:10 (twenty years ago)

have you heard much early Alice Cooper, Geir?

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 9 January 2006 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Geir, what is your favourite Todd Rundgren song?

Deluxe (Damian), Monday, 9 January 2006 20:18 (twenty years ago)

Geir, what is your favourite Todd Rundgren song?

Either "I Saw The Light" or "Couldn't I Just Tell You". Unoriginal, I know.

And, as for Alice Cooper, I do indeed like early Alice Cooper. If early means up to cirka the mid 70s. Just look at http://www.rateyourmusic.com/~GeirH and you'll easily see what I like from the 70s.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 00:32 (twenty years ago)

i gotta admit, your 1973 list is tops.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 00:36 (twenty years ago)

I'm glad you picked the Jayhawk's Rainy Day Music on your 2003 list...that was a good album but no one gave a shit about the Jayhawks anymore in 03.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 00:39 (twenty years ago)

Geir, why do you hate Paris 1919 so?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 00:46 (twenty years ago)

I know nothing about Paris 1919 except it was a peace conference :)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 02:06 (twenty years ago)

I have no quibble with your favourite Todd Rundgren songs, Geir. My favourite is "Real Man" but the two you picked are in my Top 10 anyway :).

Deluxe (Damian), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 14:46 (twenty years ago)

manic street preachers - lifeblood

having given up on the manics years ago when i came across this beautifully unstated album i had to check the credits to make sure it was actually the same band that had bored me for so long.

geir this one must be in your pile and loved surely ?

not a james brown riff anywhere ..
