"Let's Start A War" by ye olde Exploited.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 16 March 2003 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Not quite sure it's crying for her actual demise, but "Stand Down Margaret" by the English Beat (ooh, sorry Brits, "the Beat") urges for her dismissal from power.

yeah, "i'm in love with margaret thatcher" is sarcastic and doesn't actually call for her death, but...

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 16 March 2003 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

"tramp the dirt down" by EC. "black boys on motorbikes" by Sinead O'Connor was pretty scathing about Thatcher, though i don't remember if it called for her death (except through osmosis, since Sinead loves the IRA).

and i'm sure that there must be some Robert Wyatt songs about this subject.

"No Government" Anti Pasti
"...........no Maggie Thatcher and No Government...".
This gloriously plodding Pasti effort demanded anarchy of course and offers further proof that politics and music don't mix, especially when the ingredients are this bad.
It certainly didn't envisage our subsequent current 'leader' who would give thatch a run for her money in the right wing stakes.
Scary times....

Crass-How Does It Feel(To Be The Mother Of A 1000 Dead)

Scott Seward, Sunday, 16 March 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

"the day that thatcher dies" - hefner (a pretty wretched song, tho)

scott pl. (scott pl.), Sunday, 16 March 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

The Hefner song is maybe a tad contrived, yet it somehow enduces a grin.
Many, many Billy Bragg songs obviously... 'Ideology' strikes me as the one i think.

Tom May (Tom May), Sunday, 16 March 2003 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

"Slave To The Wage" by Placebo. Which considering Brian Molko never (correct me if I'm wrong here) lived in Britain during Thatcher's reign, is some nice going.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 16 March 2003 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I hear 'ding dong' by Klaus Nomi as a celebration OF her death

Ian SPACK (Ian SPACK), Sunday, 16 March 2003 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

"Singing Rule Britannia (While the Walls Close In)" by the Chameleons might well call for the end of her, but definitely does for the end of her reign. Funny thing is drummer John Lever was an active Tory!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 16 March 2003 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
"Celebrate The Day (After You)" by Blow Monkeys, if interpreted in a nasty way.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 23 April 2003 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...
There is a full list of songs here - http://pub30.bravenet.com/forum/2492839984/show/861959

You can have Thatcher on your knickers too - http://www.maggiethatcher.com

I'm saying "Bad Miss M" Danielle dax for "We'll all have a party when you're gone.. desecrate your grave and sing this song..."

Mekons - Vengeance

Eating oatcakes down the road
listening to my radio
If Mars invades then we'll be allies
Reagan Thatcher won't last long
so I'll sing another song

Don't be depressed don't be downhearted
there's a mighty crisis coming
pearls of thunder pearls of wisdom
Reagan Thatcher dead and gone

The Birdhouse - "Brixton's Burning"

We're gonna burn the witch living at Downing Street
Come on and burn the witch!
She's an evil bitch ... [etc.]

You didn't say they had to be good songs.
