Songs about filmmakers

Inspired by Le Tigre's hilarious "What's Yr Take on Cassavetes?"

So, who else has written songs about film directors?

Off the top of my head: "Brakhage" by Stereolab, and "Clint Eastwood" by Gorillaz -- but I'm not sure they're even about the people they're named after.

Help me out here!

What is the point of "What's Yr Take on Cassavetes"? It would seem insufferably smug if it weren't so obviously tossed-off.

Scott Walker's "Farmer in the City" is also about Pasolini, sort of. I think somewhere in his '80s catalog Dylan has a tune about Peckinpah but I'm forgetting the name.

Amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 20 March 2003 16:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, right: Louis Philippe's "Jean Renoir."

I guess I find "What's Yr Take" funny because there's no real point to the song. Whereas "Hot Topic" feels a little too educational (solidarity!), I like that "What's Yr Take" is essentially a banal conversation. I like imagining the band sitting around and having that conversation, and then saying, "Dude, let's turn that into a song!" Plus, it's catchy.

"Roman" by the Gol Gappas and "Roman P" by Psychic TV.

Conversely, there's Herzog's "Aguillera, Wrath of God".
