chad (chad), Saturday, 22 March 2003 23:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah! Fuck them fake punk pussy motherfuckers! The Buzzcocks ROOOOL!!! dude.

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Saturday, 22 March 2003 23:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I have it, but it is the only record of theirs I have. Do I suck?

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Sunday, 23 March 2003 00:02 (twenty-three years ago)

it's true. every once in a while when i hear that record i'm always surprised by how much i still like it

roger adultery (roger adultery), Sunday, 23 March 2003 00:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I own this record, and several other buzzcocks titles. sad to say, I still suck!!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Sunday, 23 March 2003 00:40 (twenty-three years ago)

i gave it back to the vinyl exchange manchester, from whence it came. for only the second time i ever remember, they frisbeed what was on the deck, and stuck the needle down bang on side one, while i was still selling the rest of my pile.

piscesboy, Sunday, 23 March 2003 01:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Am I the only person on ILM who thinks the Buzzcocks were vastly over-rated?

Mike Taylor (mjt), Sunday, 23 March 2003 01:42 (twenty-three years ago)

No. (Perhaps not "vastly.")

Amateurist (amateurist), Sunday, 23 March 2003 02:01 (twenty-three years ago)

It's a good album, but come on, it's a bit one-sided and dull to take in one sitting isn't it?
Then again, I can listen to several Ramones albums in a row with no problem...

Admittedly I'm not the biggest fan of pure poppunk.
I'd rather see those kids decapitated with Crass LPs.

Øystein Holm-Olsen (Øystein H-O), Sunday, 23 March 2003 02:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Am I the only person on ILM who thinks the Buzzcocks were vastly over-rated?

Nope. But they weren't as overrated as the Go-Betweens!

Aaron A., Sunday, 23 March 2003 02:06 (twenty-three years ago)

The Buzzcocks may not be my favorite band (I didn't see every one of their shows east of the Mississippi on their first American tour as Jack Rabid claims he did) but they do have a lot of fucking great songs.

Not as avid a fan of the Buzzcocks as that ass Jack Rabid, Sunday, 23 March 2003 02:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Mind you, I respect them because of their place in electric circus-era manchester punk history, but the audio just isn't there.

Mike Taylor (mjt), Sunday, 23 March 2003 02:14 (twenty-three years ago)

what if you own it but listen to your blink 182 disks a lot more?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 23 March 2003 02:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I like the Buzzcocks lots; it's not the kind of music I listen to very frequently, but when my inner rebellious youth needs consolation/motivation it does the trick.

I don't own Singles Going Steady; is Operator's Manual an acceptable substitute? Right, then, I suck.

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Sunday, 23 March 2003 02:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Most of the songs on Singles Going Steady are on Operator's Manual.

Billy Bob in San Diego, Sunday, 23 March 2003 02:41 (twenty-three years ago)

i listened to it last night actually, as i finished 'B' in my alphabetical project. it's great. so was 'time's up' and 'a different kind of tension'.

j fail (cenotaph), Sunday, 23 March 2003 02:44 (twenty-three years ago)

you guys don't suck, man yous all good people man i was jus moved by that record at he time i love all yaeven tho i dont know ya (ive been very drunk for hours

chad (chad), Sunday, 23 March 2003 03:38 (twenty-three years ago)

damn good record. add "boredom" and that's all the 'cocks i'll ever need.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 23 March 2003 04:27 (twenty-three years ago)

yay, i don't suck! i also have "love bites", so i doubly don't suck. in fact, i even have the 7" of pete shelley's "homosapien". i don't suck so much, it hurts!

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 23 March 2003 04:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I suck the big one, but I still love that album.

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 23 March 2003 05:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I only have the "Spiral Scratch" 7" and "Sky Yen", that Pete Shelley soundtrack from 1974 (I don't think the Howard Devoto film was ever made), and that "Live at the Electric Circus" 10" that has something by them on it that I can't remember.

tom (other), Sunday, 23 March 2003 05:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, Singles may not exactly be one stop shopping, but it's definitely the most solid Buzzcocks disc there is. "What Do I Get" and "Everybody's Happy Nowadays" and "Something's Gone Wrong" and "Noise Annoys" and on and on and on. Great record. One I would never part with.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 23 March 2003 07:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I want a remastered version.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Sunday, 23 March 2003 08:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Very very great, yay.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 23 March 2003 08:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Owned it loved it got bored with it flogged it never need to hear it again

Andrew L (Andrew L), Sunday, 23 March 2003 08:59 (twenty-three years ago)

i own it but i suXoR

geeta (geeta), Sunday, 23 March 2003 09:03 (twenty-three years ago)

you do not suck.

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 23 March 2003 09:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I never bothered buying it 'cos I already had all the singles. I have got "Product" too 'though. Do I suck?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Sunday, 23 March 2003 10:04 (twenty-three years ago)

A lot of their songs sound to me like Shelley didn't make the most of it, like he came up with a few fantastic hooks but didn't write a fantastic song--they lose steam because there's little build, which is why, to me, the songs often feel long even though they're not.

I guess they really are the godfathers of pop-punk.

I actually like those last few singles, at the end of either side of this LP, better than the stuff that came before. And I shouldn't be too down on this record b/c I dubbed it from my cousin when I was 14 and it was pretty important to me at that age.

Amateurist (amateurist), Sunday, 23 March 2003 10:18 (twenty-three years ago)

To think that if I had not found it on vinyl in a junk shop approx. 13 years ago or had spent the $2 I had that day at Burger King instead I would condemned to a life of suckage! Thank u god

dave q, Sunday, 23 March 2003 11:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Buzzcocks do rule, god fucking dammit, and anyone who speaks derisevely of them will suffer my wrath!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 23 March 2003 15:19 (twenty-three years ago)

derisively, even

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 23 March 2003 15:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I like 'em lots. They should do a cover of Haddaway's "What Is Love?"

What is laaaahhff?!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 23 March 2003 22:42 (twenty-three years ago)

so if i was to get one buzzcocks cd,should this be it?
i only know ever fallen in love

robin (robin), Sunday, 23 March 2003 23:38 (twenty-three years ago)

definitely, robin. There's decent songs on the other albums but "Singles Going Steady" is far and away the one buzzcocks CD to have if you're only getting one.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 23 March 2003 23:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Not as avid a fan of the Buzzcocks as that ass Jack Rabid

Aside from calling JR an ass that is the greatest name ever used on IL*.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 24 March 2003 07:20 (twenty-three years ago)

...like he came up with a few fantastic hooks but didn't write a fantastic song--they lose steam because there's little build, which is why, to me, the songs often feel long even though they're not.

Amateurist, I honestly don't understand your point. I thought for a second, "Hey, he might me onto something, better listen again." But you're not onto anything. The songs are tight as can be, and if "Everybody's Happy Nowadays" is a bit repetitive, well... yes, it is. The hook is the song. The hook is the concept and the execution. And it's fucking brilliant.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 24 March 2003 08:18 (twenty-three years ago)

three years pass...
It's a good LP, but it's lacking "I Believe." I've personally got it, I picked it up over spring break, and I plan on getting Operator's Manual. That's all the Buzzcocks I really need to own IMO.
