Band Collision

Kind of like Only Connect, but more specific. "Band Collision" was a game we played at the record store when things got boring. You take several different bands with similar elements in the names, and then you ram them together to form a new band, thus:
  • Big Black Sabbath
  • Motley Cure
  • The Peter, Paul and Mary Chain
  • Kissing the Pink Floyd Cramer

Bonus points are awarded for thinking up a good song title for the new hybrid. For example:

  • The Aerosmiths - "Heaven Knows I'm a Rag Doll Now"

So. These are lame. You can probably do better. Hit me with your best shot.

Just a quick post to fix the formatting and to add one of the perennial favourites of the staff: Vince Neil Young MC 900 Ft Jesus Jones. It used to be Jesus Joan Baez at the end, but it was considered improper for some reason. Oh well.

Sean Carruthers, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, you mean like Cola Boy George Michael Jackson Browne? That's good, because I've been carrying that around in my head for a while (since Cola Boy's brief burst of fame) and was wondering when I'd get to use it to impress people.

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 3 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Is this going to go back to the proper indent now?

masonic boom, Tuesday, 3 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

    Whoops, no, too far.

    As you were...

Can't believe no one has mentioned sensitive post-grunge cyberhiphop diva Missy Elliott Smith.

Missy Elliott Smith would be nowhere without the production work of beats'n'ukelele master Tiny Timbaland.

Tom, Tuesday, 3 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Jay Z-Z Top is known for his innovative rap and beard rock musical stylings.

Good answers so far! Keep 'em coming.

By the way, feel free to run with someone else's band collision if you think you can take it further: Cola Boy George Michael Jackson Brownsville Station. Mr. Mister Big Black Sabbath. etc.

stevie t, Tuesday, 3 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

...or their baggy offshoot My Jealous God Speed You Black Sabbath?

Tim, Tuesday, 3 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

With their plangent guitar lines, blue jumpers and lyrics about "le pluie", The Clientelephone were never out of our French textbooks.

Tom, Tuesday, 3 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Don't forget those funky Scots boys Earth, Wind and Fire Engines.

Or sensitive grunge rappers De la Soul Asylum.

Billy Dods, Tuesday, 3 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Who could forget Bob Moulds songwriting input in pop-grunge-hardcore fusion band Sugarbabes In Toyland?

Or the dry-comedy-ironic-pop delights of Jack Dee-Lite?

Aren't you glad that R.E.M. People are no more?

And where were you when Steve Hillages distinctly seventh rate S-Club System-7 were at the top of the charts with their prog-ambient techno pop-pastiche?

Falsetto indie dance: The Bee Geesus Jones

Eccentric westcountry electro pop-metal: Terrorvisage

From Mark Radcliffe's book: Crooning prog rockers Nat King Crimson, and choir tinged heavy blues from Aled Zeppelin.

Just to prove dreams can come true and these bands may one day exist: Saint Etienne Daho. Saint Etienne. Collaborating with Etienne Daho. Fantastic.

Anyone know any others?

Headgirl, Gareth... or to give them their full name MotorheadGirlschool.

Ew.

Tim, Wednesday, 4 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Graham, I meant.

Now I have to think of some of my own...

how about Double Xtian dread Irish rock ravers Yabby U2 Unlimited?

Um, I'm not really sure how to describe Bronski Beat Happening.

They're Queer Cuddlecore, no?

mark s, Wednesday, 4 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Will we ever be able to forget the true horror of Craig David Gray?

And a nation is still recoiling in terror from the memory of The Ozzy Osmonds.

Crowded House of Lovebug Starski bring us their unique brand of antipodean indie novelty hiphop.

whilst Hanoi Roxanne featuring Hitman Howie Tee Rex bring us more hiphop, this time with a harder edge, an occasional Creedence cover and a touch of glam.
