Has anyone noticed the Weird subtext of the Dido video Thank You-Charming blonde Dido gets evicted from her beautiful European style cottage situated amongst mega corporate office blocks by faceless Japanese businessmen-sort of a parable of the White Supremacist view of whats happening in America -is this disturbing or what?

Haven't seen the video you're talking about, but I should point out that that particular view of "what's happening in America" was really more of an 80s thing---middle-aged middle Americans (of the WWII generation) scared witless that the Japanese should actually compete with us economically. (This generation seems to have the odd belief that American economic supremacy is some sort of national birthright, and that any sort of outside competition is unjust and unfair.)

But if you struck the "Japanese" from the above synopsis, it would pretty accurately reflect the burgeoning resentment of corporate influence over here. And then someone would prattling on about Thom Yorke.

this question has two good things:

'weird subtext of Dido video' and 'And then someone would prattling on about Thom Yorke. '

this thread has a weird supertext. It's true that people don't seem so scared of Japan this decade. Maybe because they have heard so many times that Japan relies on other countries for the necessities like agricultural production. but I would be interested if there are any other vids with weird subtexts. Or, and this is not in the realm of subtexts, but what about videos that do obviously transgressive weird stuff, like Madonnas video for Like a Prayer and the Earth vid where they pick up a prostitute then throw her out of a moving car. I'm not talking about vids like all the rappers sexist ones, but those where you think 'there is a mind that wanders outside the social norm', check it.

What i mean, is that the video has no remblance to the song-so the director has chosen this opportunity to get his view accross-the blonde being evicted by the Japanese with help from the hispanic cops- it shows a warped view of America, I mean he has purposely chosen these actors so hes trying to make a point? I love conspiracy theories!!

It's not an expansion on the line, "Even if my house fell down now/I wouldn't have a clue", the way she casually walks away after having her house and possessions destroyed? But I will be watching very carefully the next time it's on.
