It was 30 years ago today, Mr. Mojo Risin' passed away... any favorite Doors moments amongst the ILE populace? I must say I still like "Wishful Sinful" quite a lot (though Krieger wrote that one)...

This morning Maryann told me that this couple in France saw Oliver Stone's "Natural Born Killers" & then went out afterwards & killed people, what did I think of that. I went, Oh well, at least they didn't go & see that Doors movie. Do I win a prize or something?

But then, they might've gone to see the Doors movie and drank themselves to death, so all's well...

The Doors movie = utter classic. The Doors themselves = utter duds.

your prize is in the mail, duane. copycat killers, copycat drunks, or copycat duds? fraction's "moon blood" lp (stupidly overpriced private press from l.a., 1970) may be my favourite doors monkey-do record/doors moment. the point being: that i have the same choking irrational aversion to the doors themselves that i have to leonard cohen and (sure to win me no friends around here) david bowie, WHEREAS people who saw the movie, so to speak, are actually fine by me. (same does for the other two that came to mind: bowie clones are ok, perry leopold (or whomever) is better than cohen....) what else is good that is cod morrison?

I swore to a bar room full of stunned argentines and exchange students that I was the mojo rising risen himself - mind you, only the 2 guys in the corner giggling as I was dragged down knew that I'd just tooted 3 lines of columbian marching powder in the loos.

Fave Doors moment? When Jim died and I found I didn't have to listen to comeback albums.

i...uh...well...i listened to wintertime love on repeat in an eigth grade frenzy of infatuation...sigh...can't listen to that song without thinking about her...but all the rest of their stuff is top notch too.

three years pass...
In response to the comment regarding Fraction being Doors "copycat duds", please allow me to clear something up for you. Fraction's vocalist (a.k.a. my brother-in-law) never once in his life attempted to emulate Jim Morrison's vocal style. In fact, if anyone was doing any imitating it may have been the other way around. Jim Beach was singing in L.A. clubs before anyone outside of L.A. ever heard of Jim Morrison. Jim Beach's phrasing, style, and intensity are very much of his own making. Trust me, I hear it every week at our rehearsals. I will admit that a small part of "Sanc-Divided" sounds a little like the Doors' "Love Street". Later.
