Hey, talk to me about Comets On Fire

I put on Field Recordings From The Sun today and what a difference good speakers make. The production on the album is really good - a bit bottom heavy and watery, but in a good way. I bought it last year on recommendation from a friend and don't really know anything about them at all - care to tell/chat?

Ben Chasny of Six Organs of Admittance hangs around with them and plays on the album -- they're from Santa Cruz and they just goddamn well rock. There's a legendary celebration/rant from Julian Cope about them and that album right here.

Thanks, Ned. Apparently their first album is "a thing that creeps" compared to Field Recordings From The Sun. Who knew?

Yeah, Ben Goldberg was supposed to burn me a CDR of that -- I should remind him! ;-)

Hey, is that ben of BadaBing? He sent me a sampler and a free Mirza album after my order got delayed - a true gent. Good zine, too.

i saw them once with Nam (another heavy rock, hawkwind, Acid Mothers Temple type band). a friend of a friend (totally don't know his name, but he works at Streelight records in Noe Valley) was in the band playing oscilators. he was the main attraction of the show, banging his head so hard and getting so into the music that he hit his head on the bass and started bleeding. this same guy is in DJ Shitbird and the Ultimate Party Machine.

all my friends at the show thought their name would be better if it was Coments on Fire

I saw them play live with Earth and Kinski last month. It was supersonicgroovyheavyfuck.

Here is an animated Comets On Fire action GIF (live at the Crocodile in Seattle 2/22/03)!

three months pass...
I second the supersonicgroovyheavyfuck, and I haven't even seen them live. When you play them, if you turn things way up, thay will cause your walls to blister. In a good way. COF & Skullflower have been at the top of my hit parade of late.

twenty years pass...

"the black poodle" rules almost as much closing as "black dog" does opening [an album that closes with "when the levee breaks"!]

Not your fault reggie, but seeing this thread bumped had me so stoked for a second that there was a new tour or album or something.
