That Data 80 disc...

I searched the archives and there wasn't a thread on this--I couldn't believe it. There are dozens of mentions of how everyone loves "Love Was Made for Two". You all probably at least heard "No More Lies" from gabba.net, which is also great. The album is just like I expected it to be, wonderful but kinda samey. There's a song with unvocodered vocals and a slow one and ten re-writes of "Love Was Made for Two" that sound GREAT. It's got silly lyrics ("I speak French, you speak fries"!!), it reminds me of Sonic the Hedgehog, and they even had it at my local record store (which means everyone in the world has heard it already).

It has one of the widest listening-shift tendencies of any disc I've bought all year: sometimes I put it on and it's gooey-creamy synth-gauze amazement, and then sometimes I put it on and it sounds vaguely half-assed and embarrassing. More often the former, though.

("Half-assed" = "ooo hahaha another track with big airy vocorder pads, aren't you cute." It's this occasional sense that has me listening to the MRI record more often.)

Yeah Data 80 is pretty cool. Ha, at least all the tracks aren't exactly 10 minutes long this time nabisco!

The first track "You Are Always On My Mind" is better than "Love Was Made for Two," due to it's gooey-creamy synth-gauze amazement. The vox on that is maybe the best vocal texture I've ever heard.

The MRI remix of "Love Was Made for Two" is godly.

Why do I so-very-strongly associate this album with winter? MRI too, but less so -- I must have bought them at the same time.
