Removing West African drumming from James Brown's work would probably have been the best for music.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 16:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Jeff Lynne from everything except ELO (which is brilliant)

Donald Duck from George Jones.

Stalinism from Manic Street Preachers.. they'd still be a wonderful band, they still are, but even a hard-core lefty like myself can't listen to the lyrics of "Freedom of Speech Won't Feed My Children" without gritting his teeth a little.

And, on that note, Nicky Wire from Manic Street Preachers.

West African drumming? Are you sure you're listening to the same James Brown that is the actual James Brown?

I would make sure Rush never ever came across the written works of Ayn Rand.

The entire notion that music doesn't need a melody comes from West African musical traditions.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

(could Geir, occasionlly, be removed from melody?)

The entire notion that music doesn't need a melody comes from West African musical traditions.

The earliest music in all of mankind's history came from West Africa (and also Southeast Asia, but that's a whole other can of worms). And you know what? Years before the first hide was stretched over a log and hit, THEY. WERE. SINGING. NOTES.

All I ask is that, before you make these sorts of ignorant generalizations, do a little research.

If only John Lennon had skipped Yoko Ono's art show that night, Yoko might be praised today on the level of a Patty Waters.

Take Genesis, subtract Genesis, and you'd really have something there.
