Classic or dead?

War - huh - appears not to be good for him.

It's a shame really, Agent Double-O-Soul was overlooked.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 16:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Jens (brighter), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 17:10 (twenty-three years ago)

25 Miles To Go is the best song ever.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 18:07 (twenty-three years ago)

He was signing at a record fair I went to only 10 days ago and didn't seem to be getting many takers. Now I feel bad for not saying stopping and chatting a while.

Tag (Tag), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 18:09 (twenty-three years ago)

War and Stop Her On Sight are genuine classics, so he counts as classic too.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 19:17 (twenty-three years ago)

He used to play the godawful Aquarius club in Chesterfield at least once a year. He was great. Amazing voice.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 19:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I've only heard "25 miles" and "War", neither of which I can stand.
His voice bugs me.

xnelio, Wednesday, 2 April 2003 19:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Try S.O.S. or his version of Higher and Higher, marvellous stuff

chris (chris), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 19:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Also, the follow-up to "War," "Stop the War Now."

Douglas (Douglas), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 23:26 (twenty-three years ago)

I've just got home from work, dug out a compilation CD of his and found 'Headline News' on it, which is one of those songs EVERYBODY occasionally hums and never quite knows what song they're subliminally unconscious of. Or something.

So, um, yes - 'Headline News' is another decent one of his.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 23:33 (twenty-three years ago)

His disco songs--"H.A.P.P.Y. Radio" and "Contact"--are pretty wonderful, too.

Arthur (Arthur), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 23:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Very very good, I am a happier person for hearing him on record.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 23:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Agent 00Soul always makes me feel like a bada$$

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 April 2003 00:17 (twenty-three years ago)

RIP. My Weakness Is You = possibly the best song ever. :(

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 3 April 2003 07:27 (twenty-three years ago)

I hadn't realised at the time of first reading this that he had just died. RIP.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 5 April 2003 09:25 (twenty-three years ago)

War - great tune.

I must listen to that Happy Radio track again and see what I think of it.

DV (dirtyvicar), Saturday, 5 April 2003 11:07 (twenty-three years ago)

twenty-two years pass...

The album "Soul Singer" is surprisingly bad to listen to.
