I feel really awkward asking this but would someone take a look at one of these and tell me what they think. They're only reviews really so they shouldn't take long to read.

I don't mind negative comments, or positive ones, and I'm not necessarily going to change even if everyone on the planet says I'm doing somewhing wrong, but I respect the opinions of a lot of you on here and I need more feedback.

I really want to know what people think.

I appreciate you taking the trouble, thanks.

re: autechre review

the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth and ninth paragraphs could be written about most autechre tracks since chiastic slide (and maybe parts of tri repetae, too). why don't you pander to autechre nerds and compare to previous albums/tracks? i'd have dropped the fourth paragraph too - i'm sure everyone's bored of hearing autechre compared to mathematics.

the final paragraph is one of the better summations of autechre i've ever seen. your writing is tight, too. in fact, those paragraphs are one of the better (concise, simple) raw descriptions of autechre's sound that i've heard. considering that nobody has had anything really original to say about autechre (in the brief review format) since chiastic slide i'd say you did a great job.

Thanks a lot vahid.

Never read a review of them before but I guess comparing them to maths is obvious. I couldn't help it though, I'm a mathematician. All I've read on ILM are comparisons to Architecture. Everything else you've said is fair comment too and I appreciate you taking the time.

Anyone else want to help me out?

Not an expert but I agree that everyone's a bit sick of the cliched Autechre review (you know, insectoid chatterings, complex algorithims etc), not that you've fallen into the trap too much. Personally, I found the writing style a little awkward and perhaps rambling but aesthetically pleasing preferring not to pander to the usual elitist styles of music journalism and keeping the phrases personal, which is also fine.

Hey thanks for looking dog latin, I'm enjoying the Draft 7.30 thread you started. They're an awkward band for sure.

yes, very hard to review, and like the aphex twin, there's not a whole lot that hasn't already been documented thousands of times already. Nearly all articles about aphex are identical and go something along the lines of:

Aphex Twin is Richard D James, a fruit loop from Cornwall who makes really crazy music on - get this - electronic equipment. He has a tank and a bank and he doesn't sleep. He done a gig with some sandpaper and then threw it at a man. The man was not cross and he asked Richard to write his name on it. I think Aphex Twin music is funny but silly. Sometimes it fast or slow. Richard is mad innit.

And the same goes for Autechre. Someone who had only heard Amber asked me what the new album was like and I just couldn't describe it.
