Grateful Dead

Scarily enough, I sat through 2 hours and 40 minutes of GD today.

And I enjoyed it.
I mean, I really, really, really enjoyed it!
Europe 72 rerelease on Rhino Records.
Now I need to dig up the stuff that's, well, less country, less covers. I guess either a Dick's Picks or Live/Evil is next.

Fuck!
I was SO hoping I'd hate Grateful Dead. Now I'm gonna go broke, and people will constantly ridicule me for liking them! Not that this is new to me, but urgh.

Next thing you know, I'll be smoking hash and turn into a character from The Young Ones. With my luck, most likely Rick!

What?

You just called me a BASTARD, didn't you!?!

Øystein Holm-Olsen (Øystein H-O), Friday, 4 April 2003 02:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Definitely get Live/Evil. I bet you'll love it.

Best Dicks Picks is definitely Volume 4; recorded live at the Fillmore and it's the electric part of the concert which was officially released as the Bear's Choice lp (which is mostly acoustic/covers). It's pretty rocking. Volume 8 is also quite good (an entire show - one acoustic set and one electric set - spread over 3 cds).

Also, if you're into their electric/acid side, definitely pick up Two From the Vault - it's smokin'!

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Friday, 4 April 2003 02:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Well at least you can get girls being an indie tool. Metal is generally too testosterony for that sort of extra-musical activity.

Clarke B., Friday, 4 April 2003 02:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Er... Live/Dead that is, on the Dead record.

Don't want to confuse them w/ Black Sabbath and Miles.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Friday, 4 April 2003 03:14 (twenty-two years ago)

there may be less girls into metal, but they're infinitely hotter.

your null fame (yournullfame), Friday, 4 April 2003 03:18 (twenty-two years ago)

and looser.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Friday, 4 April 2003 03:30 (twenty-two years ago)

fabulous

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Friday, 4 April 2003 03:32 (twenty-two years ago)

dude, i don't know what you're talking about; indie rock is a mobile bed of barely restrained sexual tension and desire. the one goth-metal girl i ever dated was a total prude.

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 4 April 2003 03:34 (twenty-two years ago)

the filthiest girl i've been with was hella into Lisa Loeb an' shit

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Friday, 4 April 2003 03:35 (twenty-two years ago)

how far into? like her wrist or her elbow?

Ha, Calum to thread.

(works real hard not to say "hypocrites").

David A. (Davant), Friday, 4 April 2003 05:20 (twenty-two years ago)

please don't ever, ever include me in your generalisations.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Friday, 4 April 2003 06:07 (twenty-two years ago)

This isn't a roll call.

(If.

The.

Cap.

Fits.

Etc.)

Just don't like to see women discussed like they're just body parts, know what I'm saying? Were you a part of the above conversation? If not, move along. This isn't personal (I don't know anyone here, after all). You seem quite defensive, though.

David A. (Davant), Friday, 4 April 2003 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

oh well

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Friday, 4 April 2003 06:16 (twenty-two years ago)

thank god someone's finally standing up for women.

your null fame (yournullfame), Friday, 4 April 2003 08:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Metal easily more fun and i'm afraid to say jess, i don't agree... metal girls are much hotter than indie girls and more fun, in my humble! having said that, though, "dance music" girls are generally much more boring than indie ones - i chose the worong horse there, didn't i...

Dave Stelfox, Friday, 4 April 2003 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

meatl is much more fun than anything. and meatl gurls are v extermely hot ;-)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 4 April 2003 08:32 (twenty-two years ago)

and i'm talking about personality there, too, just to vindicate that last post... also, as a straight male, the girl-to-guy ratio is an important factor in any scene from a sociological point of view...this is valid discussion!

Dave Stelfox, Friday, 4 April 2003 08:34 (twenty-two years ago)

''as a straight male, the girl-to-guy ratio is an important factor in any scene from a sociological point of view...''

explain how (and don't forget the fucking pie charts)?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 4 April 2003 08:41 (twenty-two years ago)

as a young lad, why would i have wanted to got to shoegazy indie gigs where there was next to zero chance of getting busy when punk/metal gigs yielded far greater opportunities?

Dave Stelfox, Friday, 4 April 2003 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

went to metal-ish gig yeaterday. no opportunities heh.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 4 April 2003 08:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Went to bouncy UK garage last night... I am old now, so the same factors don't come into play... i'm talking about when i was 15 or so!

Dave Stelfox, Friday, 4 April 2003 09:17 (twenty-two years ago)

indie gurls = no sense of humor
metal gurls = skanky

indie and metal boys = total unrepentant sluts

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 4 April 2003 09:21 (twenty-two years ago)

metal gurls = skanky

-- Jody Beth Rosen (edito...), April 4th, 2003.

In a good way, I always found... anyway, enough with the sweeping generalisations already I was politically correct before i started visiting ILM... feel like I'm turning into Calum!

Dave Stelfox, Friday, 4 April 2003 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

nothing worse than hip hop and jam band girls.

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Saturday, 5 April 2003 06:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Show me the indie equivalent of this:
