Juxtapozed With U

Is this the song of the summer?

Is this the chorus of the year?

Are the Super Furry Animals about to take over the world?

John Davey, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

i always feel a bit cruel and churlish saying this, but super furry animals just haven't made any good records (none of them are actually bad, but...). juxtaposed with u just continues this tradition. it is ok, i guess. sometimes i think the fuss about sfa is the fact that they're not shit, but thats not really enough is it?

The first time I heard it, I actually thought it was a piss-take.

Now I'm not so sure.

Have not made up my mind.

Ah Gareth, but you are WRONG. ;-) Call me a dyed in the wool SFA fanatic, which I am. Like "Northern Lites," the first time you hear it you scratch your head. And then you let it take over your soul.

assuming you havent lost yer soul at a wonderstuff show circa 1992 or before teh library made you cut your locks off.

teehee.

Dear lord, paul, that's actually funny!

It'd be even funnier if in fact I had to cut my hair for the job. Sadly, doompatrol's scrounging for anything to complain about runs into rude reality yet again, which farts in his face.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

so that isnt a perm?

glad to see that you can still be the "rebel" at the library! keep up the good work!!

It tries to be an insult, but fails. Astounding, really.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Anyhoo...SFA are classick, but I have yet to hear the new single. I have yet to find an mp3 of it out in there in the interweb.

Nicole, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

SFA were on some silly weekend kids chat show thingey- not performing, but actually being interviewed. It was quite surreal. Gruff and Bunf. Though the only word Bunf (sp?) got in edgewise was when the presenter asked him to fix his toaster, and he looked up, very stoned, and replied "But it's a VCR!"

And they showed the video which was ace only for the helicopter crashing and blowing the stupid couple off the roof. I *still* haven't decided if it's a piss-take or not.

The Super Furries are growing up outside the caste system of Lundun rock and roll. Me thinks they will come into their own with this album. Anyways: Brilliant show that they were up for a music award cause of the dub noise thang with Paul McCartney.

Rock and Roll cliche:

The new beatles? The new prog rock? The new Incredible String Band?

The new Super Furry Animals?

ktremainetydoompatrolorangecrushnapalmpaul is in love with the Furries in tra la la land...

Summer Smash Classic!

"I'm not in love with you, but I won't hold that against you" = pop lyric of the year.

I've never 'got' SFA untill 'Juxtaposed', but I dig it the most. The DVD should be interesting. "a little movie for each one and Super Surrounnnnd Souuund!"

Oh, and it was Gryff who was handed the toaster. His reason for it not working: "too many CRUMBS in it".

DavidM, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

And you've only "got to tolerate *some* of the people you hate", right?

, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Right, sorry, they handed Bunf something that the crap presenter claimed was an amplifier, then Bunf said it was a Video. Truly dire presenter, but props to SFA for rising above it and coming off as about 1000 times more intelligent than anyone else on the programme...

Juxtapozed With U by SFA = Mercy Mercy Me by Marvin Gaye, shurely?!

stevie t, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

And Since I Left You, and Ebony And Ivory... any more?

John Davey, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I've jsut heard this 'Juxtaposed with U' record. I don't know about Marvin Gaye. it sounds for all the world like the Lighthouse Family to me.

Nick, Wednesday, 11 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

They dedicated "Juxtaposed" to the Lighthouse Family at their Manchester gig apparently, so I guess the similarities have been pointed out to them.

I reckon the album will be up there with the best of them at the end of the year - regardless of the fact that the word on the street is it's getting 6/10 in the NME...

Andrew Williams, Wednesday, 11 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I love the idea the forthcoming NME review of the Super Furry Animals album being discussed 'on the street'. Who said the NME was culturally irrelevant?

Nick, Wednesday, 11 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Reminded me of the Lighthouse Family, too, Nick.

"The caste system of Lundun rock and roll": is it too shocking to reveal that, this time, I actually *agree* with doompatrol?
