oh and amazon.com has the $35.00 Japanese import with like 2 extra tracks. not exactly what i'm looking for though. i want the cheap American version.

Tis on www.poptones.co.uk - go to shop and it will link you to amazon.

is that the album with falling stars?

j.a.e., Saturday, 5 April 2003 07:22 (twenty-two years ago)

yes it definitely is the album with 'falling stars'

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Saturday, 5 April 2003 07:26 (twenty-two years ago)

it's great. the poptones version is in a nice sleeve too.

and probably 7 or 8 pounds if you get it from Sonny's link above

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Saturday, 5 April 2003 07:47 (twenty-two years ago)

hell maybe i will just order it from the UK. but won't that take forever to reach me in New Jersey ? o well.
what are some other good Poptones artists ? it seems cosmic rough riders and captain soul appear to be favorites judging from Amazon's recommendations.

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Saturday, 5 April 2003 07:50 (twenty-two years ago)

not to stray from the oranger discussion. cos i am still determined to find this.

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Saturday, 5 April 2003 07:51 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a nice album. Definitely influenced by that soft pop of the association v. 65 who sound. that is the only oranger album which i enjoyed. the others? meh? the first one sounded like a science experiment to get the quiet vibrationland sound - correct.

oh god, JP - you don't know what you are going to turn your poor innocent thread into.... RIGHT. I would get Cosmic Rough Riders over Captain Soul. Both bands are CSNY/Byrds hybrids but the CRR have beautiful harmonies (though the lyrics are 'naff) and memorable songs.

Have you heard of the millennium, JP? It sounds like you are digging californian sunshine soul? If you are - definitely investigate the millennium.

There is a whole spectrum of music out - going on right now - which is picking up from Poptones original focus of soft pop sunshine - from Wired for Mono (a swedish band whose review I@m doing at this moment - sort of that LOUD, VERY LOUD BYRDS JANGLE meets stones, The Tyde, Beachwood Sparks (definite counter part to Cosmic Rough Riders), etc.

Sonny Tremaine (Sonny), Saturday, 5 April 2003 07:54 (twenty-two years ago)

www.wiredformono.com - JP investigate this link - as I think Wired for Mono are going to be (insert trademark symbol) 'the next big thing'.

www.revola.co.uk - good link for the soft pop of the past.

Sonny Tremaine (Sonny), Saturday, 5 April 2003 07:56 (twenty-two years ago)

thanx for the recommendations. i am constantly seeking new bands influenced by that whole psych-pop/sunshine pop genre. i love apples in stereo and olivia tremor control and a lot of other elephant 6 bands. haha and i thought E6 was one of the only continuations of this style.

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Saturday, 5 April 2003 07:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to go right now - but when come back - I'll do you a list of recommendations of contemporary records based on that sound - the Chris Lucey from revola is fucking amazing - if charles manson reinvented himself as arthur lee and released forever changes - AGAIN!

Sonny Tremaine (Sonny), Saturday, 5 April 2003 08:05 (twenty-two years ago)

thanx again :) if you have AIM, my screenname is twiggy754 if you would like to further discuss sunshine pop sounds. talk to u when i talk to ya :)

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Saturday, 5 April 2003 08:08 (twenty-two years ago)

in the future that is, cos i gotta go too. its 5:11 am here in NJ.

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Saturday, 5 April 2003 08:11 (twenty-two years ago)

My dad bought it at Dropstyle Records in Hoorn, Netherlands last week, for 2 euro 50, which is 2 dollar 50 and then something. It was a promo version as well.

zilverberg.tk (zilverberg.tk), Saturday, 5 April 2003 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

If you lived in England I could sort you out with a promo copy.

Still thinking of a good list for you but check out the revola links. Umm, have you heard of the Blondes? Beachwood Sparks drummer left to join the Blondes - but tis a power pop confection.

In LA - the psych scene is thriving - The Tyde, The Warlocks, etc - all fit in the mandate of deliberate retro fetishism - much like E6.

Sonny Tremaine (Sonny), Saturday, 5 April 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

yup i've heard of beachwood sparks but never really heard anything by them. and i have several warlocks mp3s but i did not really get into them. i've also heard of the blondes but have not heard any songs. i shall download some.

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Saturday, 5 April 2003 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

in a similar vein anything by the Sights is worth investigating. mmmm powerpop

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Sunday, 6 April 2003 00:09 (twenty-two years ago)

yep downloaded some songs by them too. i think need more tho. the ones i downloaded were kind of garage-esque. not that there's anything wrong with that.

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Sunday, 6 April 2003 01:16 (twenty-two years ago)

seventeen years pass...

as noted on the obituary thread, bassist/vocalist Matt Harris has passed away.

I remember Matt mostly for his time in Oranger, this was one of his songs:
