Exactly what it says on the tin. Music that sounds like it was composed for a computer game or music that sounds like a computer game. Not just with the noises (there are a lot of 8bit tracks out) but the way it's been composed etc.

1. Nobukazu Takemura - Wizard In Circus
2. Plone - Be Rude To Your School
3. Pluxus - Agent Tangent
4. µ-ziq - Slice (and a lot of other tracks from Royal Astronomy)

heheh, those are just electronica tracks but i wonder if there are any non-electronic tracks that would fit? Over to you...

Does "Computer Games" by YMO count as non-electronic
(well, not electronica at least...)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Sunday, 6 April 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Royal Astronomy sounds like it's ripped right out of Zelda.

And I was listening to Iron Maiden's "Phantom of the Opera" at work and someone said the solo sounded like videogame music. The correlation between Iron Maiden and Mega Man is strong, I'm thinking.

I still haven't ever played a Zelda game but everyone I've ever played the µ-ziq album to said the same thing.

dog latin (dog latin), Sunday, 6 April 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, I've actually never heard that before. Me and some friends just came to this conclusion during the first playthrough of the record.

original bgm, Sunday, 6 April 2003 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

And I've played just about every zelda, so that may have something to do with it as well...

And how about that new No Doubt single? The one that sounds like it's using an NES soundcard.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 6 April 2003 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Cure's "The Walk" always reminded me of a song from Bomberman.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Sunday, 6 April 2003 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

"We Have Explosives" by FSOL sounds like the perfect soundtrack for an ultra violent computer game.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Sunday, 6 April 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Popcorn - not the James Brown song but the other one.

David Beckhouse (David Beckhouse), Sunday, 6 April 2003 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

"I'm a Witch" by Helium.

Mean Guy, Sunday, 6 April 2003 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

the aphex twin popcorn, you mean?

dyson (dyson), Sunday, 6 April 2003 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I think he means the Hot Butter version. That song is great.

original bgm, Sunday, 6 April 2003 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Aphex Twin remix > Hot Butter version

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 6 April 2003 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait, there's an afx remix of "hot butter"?!?

original bgm, Sunday, 6 April 2003 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

"Popcorn" I mean.

original bgm, Sunday, 6 April 2003 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought there were just two (three?) different songs with the name "Popcorn".

original bgm, Sunday, 6 April 2003 22:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Eminem's "Cleaning Out My Closet" always reminds me of the music from The Seventh Guest.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Sunday, 6 April 2003 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

About 95 per cent of dancehall riddim tracks produced between 1988 and 1992, not to mention quite a bit after, too, especialy Lenky's XM24 version of his Diwali rhythm from last year

Dave Stelfox, Sunday, 6 April 2003 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

"Popcorn" (written by Gershon Kingsley, of Perrey & Kingsley, and covered by Hot Butter) was used in a video game, and that video game is PENGO.

Ernest P. (ernestp), Sunday, 6 April 2003 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

The music from "Have I Got News for You" always sounds to me like classic shoot-em-up music. It could be in Flying Shark or something.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Sunday, 6 April 2003 22:48 (twenty-two years ago)

anything by Figurine or Kanda

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Sunday, 6 April 2003 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

"C.R.E.E.P." always sounded like the music that should play during "Trog." Anyone else remember Trog? Cute little game, you're a caveman and you try not to let dinosaurs eat you? I spent a shitload of time on that game and then broke my damn Nintendo.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 7 April 2003 17:39 (twenty-two years ago)

nickalicious - "liftoff", so I'm told.

the_reverend (nickalicious), Monday, 7 April 2003 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

"We Have Explosive" was actually in a (console) game: Wipeout XL. My biggest video-game moment of recent years, aside from obvious stuff like Pluxus and loads of electro: Royksopp's "In Space" (I think "In Space"), which sounds ridiculously like the music from Zora's Fountain on Zelda, Ocarina of Time.

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 7 April 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

"We Have Explosive" was actually in a (console) game: Wipeout XL

That is the same game that did also include Orbital's "P.E.T.R.O.L", wasn't it?

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 7 April 2003 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, and some Leftfield, Underworld, Prodigy, and Chemical Brothers as well -- sort of the most visible crossover point of that kind of "electronica" in the U.S.

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 7 April 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

five months pass...
one of my friends say changes of life by jeff mills sounds exactly like the music from some ice hockey computer game

robin (robin), Friday, 26 September 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Tortoise's 'Equator' sounds like it should be the music for a village in Final Fantasy VII.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 26 September 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Jellyfish's 'Ignorance is Bliss' (but that's kind of cheating since I think it was written with the intention of being in the Super Mario Bros. movie)

Kim (Kim), Friday, 26 September 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

track 2 off of squarepusher's "big loada" is pure video game
