wasn't it something to do with a black marker ?

If I remember correctly, you have to mark out the inner track on the CD with a black marker. It's the portion outside the hole and inside the circumference of the silvery data portion. I've never had to do this before though, so you might want more verification first.

Aigh! For the first time, I've got a disc I can't play on the computer. It's the new Dandy Warhols promo, so it's EMI, not Sony. I pop it in the drive, and it tries to install all kinds of crazy stuff. Which of course, I can't do, cause this is a work computer and I don't have admin priviliges. :-(

Anyone had this problem before? Solutions?

That's terrible. Imagine never being able to listen to the Dandy Warhols. Damn those industry fat cats!

They are one of my favourite bands on earth. So not to be able to listen to it is VERY upsetting to me.

And here I was just saying that I didn't want advance promos any more, because they ruin the album for you. But no, they insisted, so I have it, and I CAN'T PLAY IT!!! AARRRGGGHHHH!!! This is torture.

(The first person to make a joke about listening to the DW's being torture will get smacked upside the head!)

so you can't listen to the CD on a PC, does that also mean you cannot encode it? i would laugh hard if this WASN'T the case

oh well seeing as the CD cannot be played on a PC i guess you're going to have to download it at home and burn it instead

I believe you have to scribble out the OUTSIDE edge. You might want to double check that... you could end up rendering the CD totally useless.

God, how STUPID would that be? If I couldn't actually listen to an official advance press promo copy that I obtained through legitimate means ... but I could download totally illicit bootlegs through the net and listen to those. Sigh.

Not an option. I might have to wait and listen to it on the stereo at home. If it doesn't play on that, I really will hit the roof.
