Luna's "Love Dust" sounds a fuck of a lot like the Only Ones' "Another Girl, Another Planet"
and that awful, awful Stephen Malkmus song "Jenny and the Ess Dog" which steals the melody from the Elliot Smith song that goes "I'm in love with the world / through the eyes of a girl"

What's wrong with "Jenny and the Ess Dog"? It's better than "Say Yes" anyway...

two weeks pass...
Revive-o-matic!The guitar during the intro to "Sawdust" by Skeleton Key is practically identical to Flea's bass slaps durint the intro to "Good Time Boys" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I was gonna revive this thread tonight and now I can't remember why.

At exactly 2:03 into "The Watch Song" by Shellac, there's a little bit of noodly guitar filligree that sounds mysteriously cribbed off of a Yes song, though I'm sure Albini would rather flay himself alive than admit it.

Oh yeah. Two Cars things. "Gimme Some Slack" -- the Stones steal is obvious, but if you listen hard you can hear some little Rhodes flourishes that sound like
Countdown to Ecstasy-era Steely Dan. And the "You're so treacherous" line in "Since You're Gone" is a bit of a Dylan impersonation.

one year passes...
Omigosh.
So, I've always had a 'thing' for "I Hope You Dance" - perhaps the guiltiest of guilty pleasures, but MAN do I like that song, despite the bullshit 'wind beneath my wings'-ness of the verses
so today i'm in the car driving home, and this very familiar song comes on.
And I go, "ah crap. It's "Listen to your Heart" by Roxette." And go to change the station.
But before I could - SHOCK! - it was none other than my beloved "I Hope You Dance."
Easily the most OBVIOUS and SHAMELESS moment of musical mimicry EVER. I mean, it's worth downloading the two just to hear it. You can sing the whole song over "I Hope You Dance."
Jeez Louise.
I remember the Roxette chick being totally hot, though, in a gap-toothed, vaguely Soviet-looking, Brigitte Nielsen kinda way
