Hang on, how could I forget Exodus 'Toxic Waltz' and Death 'Open Casket', too?

M Carty (mj_c), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 09:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Assuming Nothingface doesn't count,

Voivod - "Voivod"
Death Angel - "Bored"
Slayer - "Raining Blood"
Destruction - "United By Hatred"

Don't really know the genre well though.

Hmmm, "Curse the Gods" might be better than "United By Hatred" if only for the intro.

I've never posted here before, but my friend pointed me here. So, here is my list in no particular order:

Voivod-Killing Technology
Celtic Frost-The Usurper
Destruction-Thrash Attack
Slayer-Angel of Death
Kreator-Blind Faith
Metallica-Trapped Under Ice
Possessed-Death Metal
Tankard-Chemical Invasion
Exodus-Pirahna
Overkill-Rotten to the Core

I'm too fed up with these POX'es to do one but my list would have Kreator, Sodom, Destruction, Possessed, Dark Angel, Sepultura and Slayer songs. Maybe a Whiplash and Testament one too, or some more obscure shit like Vulcano or V.A.R. .

Siegbran (eofor), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Something from Forbidden's Twised Into Form
Megadeth 'Holy Wars'
Megadeth 'Rust in Peace/Polaris'
Metallica 'Disposable Heroes'
Metallica 'Frayed Ends of Sanity'
Metallica 'Dyers' Eve'
Slayer 'Dead Skin Mask'

Eh, that's all I got. I mostly listened to later Death, Cynic, Edge of Sanity, etc.

hhmm no DRI?

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

i can't even remember 10 thrash metal bands. and i was a tape trading nutcase back then.

your null fame (yournullfame), Thursday, 10 April 2003 07:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm, what exactly is this POX thing? I want to reply, but I figure I'll ask first, so I don't make a completely screwed up list.
Just top 10 thrash metal songs of the 80s?

Øystein Holm-Olsen (Øystein H-O), Thursday, 10 April 2003 08:43 (twenty-two years ago)

POX=pick only ten. yeah, your top 10 thrash metal songs.

your null fame (yournullfame), Thursday, 10 April 2003 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Ahh, right. Thankyee.
No particular order, and sticking to one song per band. As always with these lists, this is far from definite:

Voivod - Tornado (Killing Technology - 1987)
Coroner - Tunnel of pain (No More Color - 1989)
Slayer - Hell awaits (Hell Awaits - 1985)
Forced Entry - Morgulon (Uncertain Future - 1989)
Mekong Delta - True lies (The Music Of Erich Zann - 1988)
Celtic Frost - Circle of the tyrants (To Mega Therion - 1985)
Destruction - Tormentor (Infernal Overkill - 1985)
Sodom - Tired and red (Agent Orange - 1989)
Annihilator - Human insecticide (Alice In Hell - 1989)
Dark Angel - The burning of Sodom (Darkness Descends - 1986)

Hmm, these 10-lists are more difficult than I thought, as there's quite a few more I really, really wanted to include.

Øystein Holm-Olsen (Øystein H-O), Thursday, 10 April 2003 09:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Include away Mr Oystein - your list so far shows impeccable taste...

M Carty (mj_c), Thursday, 10 April 2003 09:33 (twenty-two years ago)

oh man...forced entry, i remember seeing them in LA. about 30 people in the crowd. great show.

your null fame (yournullfame), Thursday, 10 April 2003 09:36 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, I'm definitely in the mood for this right now so why the fuck not??

Slayer - Altar Of Sacrifice
Nuclear Assault - Technology
Sacred Reich - One Nation
SOD - Pi Alpha Nu
Sepultura - Beneath The Remains
Crumbsuckers - Brainwashed
Excel - Set Yourself Apart
Megadeth - The Conjuring
DRI - Slumlord

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 13:18 (twenty years ago)

four years pass...

This is fucking awesome. You know immediately from the spooky dystopian synth intro that it is going to be fucking prime thrash and guess what it is. Comps like this are a godsend imo, the history of thrash is much more full of small bands from Finland or Brazil or Canada who never really got (or maybe wanted) any traction but made tapes that got traded & listened to & spoken of by tape-trading punks as "the most extreme, way better than commercial thrash" etc. '87-'90 is getting pretty long in the tooth for pre-revival thrash but damn you guys if you remember thrash as being something creative & not formulaic but really interesting creative stuff that's rooted in punk but is kinda ambitious (time signature play, cool sounds & moods) then you should hear this because it is RAD.

I mean seriously how can anybody even deny the power of this band:

Bestial Burst put the album out. BB is the fucking BEST.

Jamie_ATP, Monday, 28 September 2009 22:49 (fifteen years ago)

Rad, I've been wondering about tracking down some KBD/Nuggets for thrash comps for a while, have never gotten around to it.

CharlieS, Monday, 28 September 2009 22:51 (fifteen years ago)

that is only 1/4 the excellence on display here, what of the national napalm syndicate titles:

After the Fall of N.W.
Life is Pain
Werewolf, the Obsession

if I had listened to this album earlier today, my day would have been one whole hell of a lot better.
