I'm not sure if it has been released yet but it's been on soulseek for awhile now..does it stand next to Domestica as one of their best works or were you dissapointed with their latest reincarnation?

I read about this and it sounded good, but I've never heard them. The guy from Commander Venus(sic?), right?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

The "guy from Commander Venus" is Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes. Tim Kasher, main Cursive guy, is also a member of The Good Life.

I haven't listened to The Ugly Organ very much, but my initial impressions are positive. I like the integration of the cello and keys and other non-guitars into the sound, and the songwriting seems better.

saddle creek is a bunch o' pussies

Tim kasher wasn't also in Commander Venus? That's what i meant.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, right, sorry. Kasher was in Commander Venus but left before the recording of The Uneventful Vacation, so he wasn't credited on that record. The "other guys from Commander Venus" are Matt and Todd, who are in the Faint now, and Robb, who runs Saddle Creek (and to whom all "pussy" inquiries should be directed).

this album is still really good

yuppppppppp, truly a slept on classic, as you can tell from this thread. pretty much amazing start to finish, propulsive, melodic, emotionally satisfying non-corny operatic rock music! never really felt anything else they did except for a few songs (first couple on happy hollow). saw them on tour with mastodon, against me!, and these arms are snakes in 2007 and they played mostly UO stuff - very very great! where are they now?

they released an album last year. i didn't listen to it—feel like tim kasher's whole thing has degraded tremendously

i will say the good life albums released both before and after the ugly organ are as essential, black out and album of the year

Last year's Cursive LP was DREADFUL. But I don't count Kasher out yet; he's made albums I haven't liked before and then bounced back with really interesting, satisfying ones (Mama, I'm Swollen and Monogamy are both excellent).

And damn, Black Out is a hell of a record, too. It's a phonebook-thick slab of awesome songwriting.

I like this album far more than "Domestica." The band was way better with Gretta Cohn in it as far as I was concerned.

"this album" being "The Ugly Organ," for the record. (There is some chatter about more recent things that I ignored until after I posted.)

At this point the Good Life discography is way more solid than the Cursive one.
