Cursive: The Ugly Organ

I haven't listened to The Ugly Organ very much, but my initial impressions are positive. I like the integration of the cello and keys and other non-guitars into the sound, and the songwriting seems better.

"sierra" is still such an incredible song.

The album was released 10 years ago this month.

this album is still really good

yuppppppppp, truly a slept on classic, as you can tell from this thread. pretty much amazing start to finish, propulsive, melodic, emotionally satisfying non-corny operatic rock music! never really felt anything else they did except for a few songs (first couple on happy hollow). saw them on tour with mastodon, against me!, and these arms are snakes in 2007 and they played mostly UO stuff - very very great! where are they now?

they released an album last year. i didn't listen to it—feel like tim kasher's whole thing has degraded tremendously

i will say the good life albums released both before and after the ugly organ are as essential, black out and album of the year

Last year's Cursive LP was DREADFUL. But I don't count Kasher out yet; he's made albums I haven't liked before and then bounced back with really interesting, satisfying ones (Mama, I'm Swollen and Monogamy are both excellent).

And damn, Black Out is a hell of a record, too. It's a phonebook-thick slab of awesome songwriting.

I like this album far more than "Domestica." The band was way better with Gretta Cohn in it as far as I was concerned.

At this point the Good Life discography is way more solid than the Cursive one.

I always forget about this album but it remains CLASSIC
