New Spiritualized album! I demand an explanation!

Apparently advance copies are already circulating...? Has anybody heard this, or even heard anything about it? I should be getting a copy in the next week or so, but I'm mystified at a) the amazing rapditiy with which this record must've been recorded and b) why I haven't heard a single word about it anywhere...

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 9 April 2003 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

You're so demanding.

hstencil, Wednesday, 9 April 2003 20:57 (twenty-two years ago)

it's a comp of rare mixes/versions from singles and such. nothing new as far as i know...two discs. swiftly rendering my collection worthless....

heywood jablomi, Wednesday, 9 April 2003 21:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Yup, a comp. There are more on the way.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

no no no I mean *in addition* to the b-sides thing. A whole new record of new tunes.

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 9 April 2003 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

wow. ain't heard a t'ing.

raggett: more what?

heywood jablomi, Wednesday, 9 April 2003 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Where's Kate, or Chris Barrus...?

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 9 April 2003 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

More volumes in the collection of singles trax etc. My own homemade version of them filled six full CDRs at one point, and there was more I could have included.

Mr. Barrus and Ms. St. Claire will doubtless be notified. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

a clip of one of the new songs, "Hold On", (which is also appearing on some benefit album) is streaming from the spiritualized.com website

http://www.spiritualized.com/nf_news.php?id=1227

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 9 April 2003 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember reading something in the street press out here when they toured last year, that Jason wanted to take the touring band into the studio as soon as possible and cut a more stripped-back album while they were in good form. But then the drummer got sick so I assumed they'd canned that idea; perhaps not?

Hayden Nicholls (Pop the Weasel), Thursday, 10 April 2003 01:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, do you have "Fucked Up Inside" on CD-R, perchance?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 10 April 2003 07:57 (twenty-two years ago)

it doesn't matter! Pierce has passed his sell-by date.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 10 April 2003 08:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Boo!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 10 April 2003 08:32 (twenty-two years ago)

heh, it's just that his schtick sounded SOOOOO tired on the last album, the notion that he'd want to release another one beggars belief. time to retire to junkie-dom methinks.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 10 April 2003 08:37 (twenty-two years ago)

He's clean, Kilian! He works out! He has a lady now, and he's well-adjusted!

Don't you want to hear music by such a man?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 10 April 2003 08:38 (twenty-two years ago)

oh my body gets tired

too much time on the rowing machine

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 10 April 2003 08:42 (twenty-two years ago)

hahaha! :)

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 10 April 2003 08:44 (twenty-two years ago)

only a public slanging match with Dickie Ashcroft will generate any real interest in me for this one

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 10 April 2003 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

New Spiritualized album to come packaged with a free DVD of "The Pierce Workout" and a nutritional pamphlet.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 10 April 2003 08:48 (twenty-two years ago)

delia smiths new book has a foreword by jason pierce, "although you thought staying thin and eating delicious food wasn't possible, it's easy! you too can enjoy lentil stew".

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 10 April 2003 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Jason Pierce : The Dr Atkins/Martha Stewart for the Hoxton set.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 10 April 2003 08:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 10 April 2003 09:00 (twenty-two years ago)

ladies and gentlemen we are serving in several minutes so if you make your way to the dining room there is plenty of space

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 10 April 2003 09:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 10 April 2003 09:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey man there's a hole in my face where all the honey goes.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 10 April 2003 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Come on baby, stop your crying

Have a soy muffin, luv! there there...

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 10 April 2003 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Nordic - You need a copy of Fucked Up Inside?

"Hold On" has been kicking around for awhile - it first appeared on a promo disc right when Spiritualized was doing the "orchestra-free" second leg of the US tour.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 10 April 2003 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Little Jay's a fucked up boy
Who boiled the pan and added the soy

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 10 April 2003 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris-is that an offer?

If so, I'm off to my welding hut to make giant bronze statues of you to place on all those empty plinths in Baghdad...

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 10 April 2003 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey man there's a hole in my face where all the honey goes

For some reason the hilarity of this post didn't strike me until I popped out to get a coffee, and started uncontrollably cackling and snorting in the middle of the street.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 10 April 2003 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Will the American release of Complete Works vol. 1 be copy-protected as well? If it will be then this is an occasion... the first release I really and truly want but won't be buying because of the damn fool record labels. Makes me sad.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Thursday, 10 April 2003 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I know people who have uploaded this album so I don't know if this is true or not.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 10 April 2003 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I'm sure it isn't good copy protection... it's the spirit of the thing I'm against.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Thursday, 10 April 2003 11:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm wondering about the (alleged) new album proper myself. There *are* song titles, and clips apparently (on Kazaa,) which consist of twenty-second loops that are said to sound pretty genuine. My guess is, there's a record, and the label's being preemptive by circulating fakes before promo copies go out...

M Specktor (M Specktor), Thursday, 10 April 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Wasn't Let It Come Down actually recorded quite some time before it's eventual release, anyway?

Maybe, like Delia Smith, Jason Pierce had some goodies "set aside for later".

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 10 April 2003 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

he improvs "of all the girls I've loooooooooooooooved before" at the beginning

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 10 April 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

so all I get is no real answers and a bunch of junkie-jokes.... *sigh*

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 10 April 2003 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

What d'yer mean? Chris gave you an answer on "Hold On"!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 April 2003 23:46 (twenty-two years ago)

ladies and gentlemen we are serving in several minutes so if you make your way to the dining room there is plenty of space

Comedy gold, I tells yer, comedy gold...

So should I really do what my addled brain told me to do last night, and get a 4 inch tattoo on my arm of one of the swirly characters off the Lazer Guided Melodies CD? I'm in two minds.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 11 April 2003 08:46 (twenty-two years ago)

that cover is crap.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 11 April 2003 08:52 (twenty-two years ago)

so all I get is no real answers and a bunch of junkie-jokes.... *sigh*

Shakey Mo, you got answers AND jokes-such is the way of ILM, no?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 11 April 2003 08:57 (twenty-two years ago)

PAGING CHRIS BARRUS-yr email doesn't seem to be working, buddy. I'll try again later (and thanks!).

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 11 April 2003 10:21 (twenty-two years ago)

My apologies to Shakey for not dealing with the question at hand, but I was wondering what others thought of the fact that this new set is called Complete Works, yet it's clearly missing tracks from the Spiritualized discography. I noticed that the Any Way You Want Me remixes are missing, and I'm sure there's a couple of other things. I'm thinking that they are likely going in chronological order, so it's not like these tracks will appear on a future release. It just seems odd to call it "Complete" when it's not.

Jonathan, Wednesday, 16 April 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah...you'd think "Collected" or (since J was probably going for another dippy drug pun) "Works" (by itself) would've done it anyway...

M Specktor (M Specktor), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Guess this means there won't be a disc with the Tones for DJs release.

heh.

Jonathan, Wednesday, 16 April 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

That will all be on the "Completist Works" CDs.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Can't wait!!! Maybe there'll be a four disc set consisting of Jason breathing during the recording of Ladies and Gentlemen...

One disc could even be one track of Jason sleeping from 1:00 am to 2:19 am.

Jonathan, Wednesday, 16 April 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you *really* want to hear the "Any Way That You Want Me" remixes? They're kinda dire, but if you're interested toss me an email and I can hook you up.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Guess this means there won't be a disc with the Tones for DJs release.
heh.

That will all be on the "Completist Works" CDs.

Is that, like, really rare then? How exciting! Hoorah for having an ex who worked at Dedicated...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 17 April 2003 06:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Was it your ex that signed This Picture? Is that why you left them?

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Thursday, 17 April 2003 06:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you kidding? A Crystals reference = BEST THING ABOUT THE ALBUM!

kate, Wednesday, 14 May 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

So it's all real, then?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

"rated x" = dronerock porn = stuff of Kate's dreamz

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris Barrus to thread...again!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

uuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhh...

::puts on Recurring and drifts::

kate, Wednesday, 14 May 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sorry, but all of those song titles sound like bad parodies of Spiritualized song titles.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were authentic though, since the last album was like a bad parody of a Spiritualized album.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

You should have seen the live show in LA late 2001. That was a bad parody of Laserium Floyd.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

"A Crystals reference = BEST THING ABOUT THE ALBUM! "

So so true, I think that's a great title. And I wholeheartedly welcome a re-casting of the original tune, since it's so fucking creepy...

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 14 May 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Laser Spiritualized. I DEMAND IT!!!

kate, Wednesday, 14 May 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

If they had had actual lasers, the show would have been a lot better (their stripped down fuck-you show six months later was a vast improvement).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Jason should dress up as Kim Jong Il and shoot lasers at the audience out of his guitar. That would restore my respect, I think.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Only if silver leather trousers were involved!

kate, Wednesday, 14 May 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

A further peek into Kate's mind. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 May 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, he wore white leather trousers and silver trainers for the whole of the last tour... why can't he go the Full Iggy for Laser Spiritualized?

kate, Wednesday, 14 May 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Jason only owns one set of clothes at any given time.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 15 May 2003 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

He wore silver trousers at Glasto, Kate.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 May 2003 11:08 (twenty-two years ago)

so, what's all this about somebody having a copy of Fucked Up Inside? Anybody feeling in a giving(trading?) mood? I could use this on my radio show...

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 15 May 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Has anybody observed, while we're making laserium jokes and pointing at Jason's trousers, that this is kind of, um...good? Maybe I'm being suckered into it by nothing better than simple nostalgia--God knows, I *want* this record to be good--but it seems a million times better than the last one...loud, ugly (for the most part,) comparatively light on choirs, a detectable jazz influence (run, Kate), which nevertheless *doesn't* suck, raw guitars...OK, so the lyrics sort of blow, but that's nothing new, and achieving levels of scuzz he hasn't since the Spacemen days has to count for something, doesn't it?

My heart is glad. And no, it's not a fake...not nearly.

M Specktor (M Specktor), Friday, 16 May 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to believe you, M., in the sense that it might be real, but I trust Mr. Barrus when it comes to whether it is or not...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 May 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Listening to it right now and have a couple of knee-jerk thoughts. Bear in mind that I have not listened to this in the car

-This is the first album since Laser Guided Melodies where Jason hasn't recycled old Spacemen 3 material. Hooray!

-I'm shocked, SHOCKED that the longest song on here is 5:21. The conciseness is a wonderful thing, even though there isn't the obligatory apocalypse epic like "Shine A Light" or "Out Of Sight". Well, "Oh Baby" sort of gets close.

-I have no doubt in my mind that every song on here will be absolfuckingutely massive live.

-I am no longer embarrassed to say "yeah, Spiritualized is my favorite band, but that last album blows chunks."

-The lead guitar tone on "Lay It Down Slow" drives me nuts, and not in a good way.

-I still wish Jon Mattock was playing drums.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 16 May 2003 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

He speaks! Okay then, I will listen indeed.

*does so*

Hey, the first song isn't even pretty. Or ugly in a pretty way! It's actually very messy rock! There might be something here!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 May 2003 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm really starting to like this album a lot.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 16 May 2003 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

That's because it doesn't suck. It's uh...I was an inch-and-a-half from nominating these guys on the "artists who will never release a worthwhile record again" thread. Q'uel surprise!

I can't help but be very impressed, not just that the songs are short, but that the bombastic slow ones don't overegg the pudding as well. The orchestration's actually (dare I say) restrained...

M Specktor (M Specktor), Friday, 16 May 2003 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)

("absolfuckingutely massive live" this makes me really excited and sad at the same time)
They must tour more than once on the east coast, because I will miss their june dates!

A Nairn (moretap), Friday, 16 May 2003 22:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I really wish the east coast dates coincided with the MegaFAP.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 16 May 2003 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't stop listening to this

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Saturday, 17 May 2003 06:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Total shocka! I like the melancholy gospel tracks as much as the flat-out drone rockers

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Saturday, 17 May 2003 06:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Jeezis H. Fuque! Wha'happen to Jason? He's totally freaked out. I like the first track than every album since _Fucked Up Inside_ put together.

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Saturday, 17 May 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Where can I find this??

Evan (Evan), Saturday, 17 May 2003 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, and Kate to thread, darnit!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 17 May 2003 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I finally downloaded myself a copy.

It's

::wibble:

...

it's, erm ...

Much as I really HATE to admit it, it sounds like The Reinstated Prophet Tentatively Cleared Of His Heresy (In The Form Of That Unspeakable Album of Awfulness) Jason Pierce...

(might actually have made a really good record...)

Dear lord, I hope this is the real album. I hope these are not demos that he's going to fuck up and over-orchestrate and drain of all RAWK. I hope this is for real.

I'm on my second listen. On first listen, some of the RAWK songs sounded a bit flat, like a cartoon SPZ tribute band formed by Oasis fans... but on second listen, it's actually rather sucking me in. The gospel songs are gentle and lovely and not overdone and actually quite heart-wrenching. And the RAWK songs actually... erm, rock.

I mean, it's still Classique Roque with a capital PROG but it's got something, I hate to use the word "soul" but whatever it was that was sucked out of SPZ on the Unspeakable Album is definitely back. I'd have been happy to have more drones and tremolos and phase, because there's far too little of that, and far too much "I like Free Jazz, really I do" skronk. But it's bombastic and BIG without being overblown and pompous, even while sounding stripped-down and fragile. Chris B is onto something, in that the songs are short and concise and intense and fully formed and realised, rather than long and meandering.

I like it. I have to admit that I like it. I'm going to buy this when it comes out. Probably.

Thanks, Jason, you've saved my day. :-)

kate, Monday, 19 May 2003 08:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Or maybe my standards are just lowered because the last one was so bad, that it's a relief that this one is actually OK.

I'm trying to judge it as being "An Album" rather than the expectations of "The New Spiritualized". I mean, it's miles better than The Warlocks, but that's not saying much.

I guess I'm just getting older, and I'm no longer quite so entranced by RAWK. But there's some good textures and moments of geniune loveliness here...

kate, Monday, 19 May 2003 09:10 (twenty-two years ago)

he should get evan parker in there then i might bother with this crap again.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 19 May 2003 09:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I like The Unspeakable Album, but that's because unlike, apparently, most Spz fans I have no problem whatsoever with sugary orchesteal pop, and think that it is great sugary orchestral pop. But on the other hand the last thing I want is another big lush orchestral Spiritualized album, so the above posts warm my heart.

So the above tracklisting is genuine then, before I go running off to download?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 19 May 2003 09:48 (twenty-two years ago)

The Unspeakable Album = proof that there really IS a difference in taste between sugar (good) and saccharine (very, very bad).

kate, Monday, 19 May 2003 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, part of what bothers me about the Let It Come Down-bashing is that I don't think Jason Pierce has really evolved much as a songwriter since the first Spiritualized album. With the odd exception here and there, the progression throughout the band's career is more down to arrangment than anything else - in terms of actual SONGS there's very little on the last album that wouldn't fit right in on Laser Guided Melodies or Pure Phase if you were to replace the orchestral flourishes with keyboard drones.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 19 May 2003 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I see your point, but for most of us, the thing about SPZ was *not* the melodies or the songs but the whole point WAS the keyboard drones and phasery stuff and the ARRANGEMENT.

I mean, who listens to SPZ for the melodies or the songs? The lyrics are often silly to the point of laughable, and come on, it's DRONEROCK, there are not supposed to be melodies as such.

For me, the whole point was the arrangements, the drone, the whirr, the texture. Take that out, and there's nothing of what I liked the band for in the first place, hence the SUCK.

kate, Monday, 19 May 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think Jason Pierce has really evolved much as a songwriter since the first Spiritualized album

He hasn't evolved since S3! It's all about arrangements with him.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 19 May 2003 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

''For me, the whole point was the arrangements, the drone, the whirr, the texture.''

so if you're OK with a 'lack' (say) of melody then how come you haven't got into other types of drone music (say indian classical) (well if you have then i've never seen yr posts on it).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 19 May 2003 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

1) For a start, I have listened to a fair amout of other drone-stuff, including classical Indian ragas and hardcore and avante-drone, but I don't talk about it because I really don't know that much about it. I'm learning more about it (for f@cks sake, I practically live with someone who is perfectly happy to listen to mains hum as music) but I don't know enough to shoot my mouth off. Just because you don't see me posting on other threads about such stuff doesn't mean that I don't read them. On ILM, I read about 10 times as much as I post.

2) I'm not neccessarily about the *disappearance* of melody entirely. I'm a bubblegum pop girl at heart, and I do appreciate a good melody, and I could not live on a steady diet of nothing but pure drone with no melody. BUT what I am saying is that inventive or original melodies are not the point - they are merely a skeleton on which to hang arrangements. Jason Pierce's songwriting has not improved or worsened since late Spacemen 3 - however, his arrangement style has changed and varied considerably. Me, I like the arrangements that are all about the texture, rather than how many violin parts he can fit into a fifteen minute epic.

kate, Monday, 19 May 2003 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

''For a start, I have listened to a fair amout of other drone-stuff, including classical Indian ragas and hardcore and avante-drone, but I don't talk about it because I really don't know that much about it.''

OK. I don't know that much abt any music (as in the nuts and bolts of it) but i have some records i suppose so i do post abt it every now and then if it comes up.

''On ILM, I read about 10 times as much as I post.''

same here.

jonas lefrel (jonas lefrel), Thursday, 22 May 2003 01:59 (twenty-two years ago)

right then, so the site with the demos has now been wiped away clean by the Matrix/feds/etc.

anybody else know where I can get the tracks without having to submit to digging around on the p2p networks?

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 22 May 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

If yer in a well-known drone-pop band, you can bribe me with free tickets to the Brixton Accademy, but otherwise, I suspect yer out of luck. Sorry!

kate, Thursday, 22 May 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry, my shoegazer band has yet to get off the ground. I could help you get into shows around Detroit, but that's about it.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 22 May 2003 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't really formed an opinion about Amazing Grace just yet, but I'd like to say that while I agree that Let It Come Down isn't a very good album, it does feature "Don't Just Do Something," which has become my single favorite Spiritualized song.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Saturday, 24 May 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

"A shrug or pout of an album."

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 24 May 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh man this is totally fuct - I am dismayed to learn that J. Spaceman has kind of screwed himself into a legal limbo with this new record. According to my "sources" he used his "get-out-of-contract-free" clause with Arista, but he had already recorded the new album and promo copies had been pressed. So the album's been leaked, and now Jason is in the unenviable position of trying to shop his new record to a label even though the album has already leaked to the public... which is just fucked. I am sad. I'll happily send him money for the new record, do you think he takes personal checks? (Note: While I have heard it I do not even own a copy of this "leaked" album... not yet anyway).

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 4 June 2003 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, but record companies are DUMB because a smart one would LEAP on this album, since it has already been test-driven and approved by a loyal and obsessive fanbase. MP3's don't make fans NOT buy albums any more than tracks played on the radio make fans NOT buy albums.

I don't see this pre-release as sabotague, if anything, I see it as advertising. I WOULD NOT have bought this album if I had not heard it on the internet. Now that I've heard it and know it's a million miles better than The Abomination, I will buy it. And as an obsessive fan, I will probably buy it on 2 or 3 different formats. I'm not the only obsessive SPZ fan in the world, by a long shot.

kate, Thursday, 5 June 2003 08:02 (twenty-two years ago)

six months pass...
