I was just asking because I got a copy of the A Bestiary of... compilation and, never having heard the earliest Creatures material before, was rather surprised as how fantastic it's held up. Even more so than songs on the Boomerang lp.

It's hard to pick one because they're two sides of the same coin. Current fascination with the Creatures aside, I think I'd still pick the Banshees in a pinch.

When I was in high school, I had the idea of making a musical that used various pop songs I adored. The first song was going to be a club scene using "Pretty Boys and Pretty Girls/Tubular Bells" by Book of Love, which would segue into a showdown outside set to "Standing There". I never got further than that, but it was still a brilliant idea.

You know, this thread has sparked some very gradual reminiscing on my part--I really had almost completely forgotten (or at least not thought about, as I keep saying) the Creatures and the Glove. And while I don't really have much desire to dig those albums up or purchase them again, remembering that they exist has sort of made me happy. So thanks for making me happy, everyone!

The joy of hearing the Creatures's Bestiary comp with Feast and the Wild Things EP and "Right Now" and all that can't even be measured. Is Feast the best Martin Denny tribute that wasn't necessarily planned on being one ever?

I'm actually in the mood for the Creatures ('Wild Thing' EP and 'Feast' at least) more often than for the Banshees, the last couple years.

Definitely rank as one of the best side bands of major rock bands ever. Maybe the best.

The Creatures' version started with a distinct introduction, with Siouxsie clicking her fingers to mark the tempo. She also added the "palala pam pam" that she sings before the arrival of the congas. These special arrangements were not present in the initial version by Mel Tormé; they were created by the Creatures.
