Help I"m looking for classic Belgian bands / pop artists who managed some success in the US / UK charts at some point in their long or short careers.

Are there any classics?

In the dusty vaults of my memory lies a song from (I think) the mid '80s called (I think) "My Suitor" by a band called (I think) Berntholer (sp?) who were (I think) from Belgium.

Yeah, nothing like being specific. But it's the best I could come up with at this late hour. [John Peel used to play it back in the day.]

Everything you always wanted to know about Belgian Pop but were afraid to ask at the Belgian Pop & Rock Archives.

yeah dEUS and soulwax are the most well-known. let's not forget hercule poirot's short-lived musical career, too...

Of course! Ça Plane Pour Moi! There's your international chart success!

"My suitor" is, of course, one of the greatest records ever made.

Move your ass by the Erotic Dissidents. Number one for weeks in Belgium, I gather. I don't think it achieved major chart success but it should have done.

Front 242 is a super-mega-industrial band, baby. They also continue a proud tradition of being an industrial band with "Front" in the title, who rock. Like... um... Front Line Assembly. Well, that's just one, but it could still be a traditional.

C'mon, who can beat song titles like "Serial Killers Don't Kill their Girlfriend" or "Serial Killers Don't Kill Their Boyfriend" or "Serial Killers Don't Kill their Dog Either?" C / D? The answer is classic, my friends, unequivocal classic.

I think KKarie covered My Suitor.

Lords of Acid, of course.

Didn't chart, but Belgian band Thou's Put Us In Tune from 2001, produced by John Parrish (P.J. Harvey) and based on Portishead's discarded backing tracks, is an insanely hooky, overlooked classic.

four years pass...

Bump.

I said some very thick necked things about them waffle eatin' faux-frenchies down south, so to angloparaphrase a Dutch saying: For something hears something. No really, I insist:

Lio's first album (plus the handful of French-language songs on her follow-up) has been something of an obsession with me lately. lyrical godhead and best chorus ever: "comix comix comix comix comix discomix, whoa, whoa, a yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah"

also worthy:
