There's many different ways of dealing with your lurrrve troubles- some people talk to their real life friends. Some people post threads about it on ILE and get lots of friendly advice & hugglez, as well as the occasional kitten pic and/or double entendre. Me, I make mix tapes (cue the ILM massive, in Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons voice: "gee, you're just like THAT GUY IN HIGH FIDELITY!" Yeah, I know you're going to do that, you heartless bastards.)

So far, I've got:
"(I'm Not Your) Stepping Stone", The Monkees
"Dirty Work", Steely Dan
"Steppin' Out", Paul Revere & The Raiders
"Laugh, Laugh", The Beau Brummlers

John Prine-"All The Best"
Mouse+The Traps-"A Public Execution"
The Who-"Naked Eye"
Fleetwood Mac-"That's All For Everyone"
A whole lotta Elvis Costello and Lloyd Cole songs
and since you mentioned "High Fidelity", you gotta have:
13th Floor Elevators-"You're Gonna Miss Me"

there's a white stripes song (can't even think of which album, either DS or WBC) but there's a line "why can't you be nicer to me?!?"

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 10 April 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

geeta: working on it as we speak- it's turning out totally rockist and canonical, but I'll be glad to hook you up if you're interested regardless.

"Tired of Waiting for You" - The Kinks
"Waiting in Vain" - Bob Marley, although the Annie Lennox version is nice

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Friday, 11 April 2003 04:18 (twenty-two years ago)

the entirety of Sugar Ray's self-titled album. Lots of ultra-confused (is he the heartbreaker or the heartbreakee? not even he's sure!) stuff with ultra-catchy melodies. In particular the country-disco "Just A Little More," the bionic-Weezer tracks "Satellites" and "Waiting," not to mention the two singles "When It's Over" and "Answer The Phone."

"Gloomy Sunday" - then end it all. No one will ever love you again.

Man, in these kinds of situations, I just try to listen to music that is STOIC or has nothing to do with Relationships, Men, Women, love, hope, beauty, etc. I do not like sitting in my own little pit of remorse. Not to say that's what you're doing, but that's what I invariably end up doing when feeling scorned or hurt! So I usually listen to some nice open synth stuff like Clockwork Orange score, or some really wonderfully over the top creative pop music, like Duran Duran's "DECADE" is really good.

But to give you a contribution, "There's No Need For Us To be Alone" by Piano Magic. Moaning, breaking glass, acoustic guitar, burnt lyrics, the whole deal in an easy-to-sigh-to package.
