When will car companies realize that having Smashmouth in their ads is dumb?

Seriously, what are they thinking? Who decides this shit?

Also: let's talk about car commercial music - Dirty Vegas, Buzzcocks, etc.

I think Boredoms would make cool car commercial music.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Thursday, 10 April 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

The Boredoms were already in a car ad, mid-nineties

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 10 April 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Better than Joy by Gay Dad.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 10 April 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

What song? "All Star" (that's them, isn't it?) is pretty good... the Fall have been on some car ads I think

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 10 April 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Anthony Miccio to thread!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 10 April 2003 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

what kind of car did boredoms advertise for? a flying car?

i luv flying cars

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 10 April 2003 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Who decides this shit?

Uhhh, overpaid "creatives" in expensive shoes.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 10 April 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Boredoms would sound good for a Saab ad where they make the car go really fast by the camera. Ooooh yea!

Jon Williams (ex machina), Thursday, 10 April 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I would buy an SUV from Truman's Water.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 10 April 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

no music ever could convince me to buy an suv

however boredoms could potentially convince me to buy a spaceship

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 10 April 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, Bare Naked Ladies???? WTF???

Jon Williams (ex machina), Thursday, 10 April 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, you might as well be walking on the sun!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 10 April 2003 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Didn't Target once use The Buzzcocks' "What Do I Get?" in a commercial?

Bad advertising agency -- very, very bad advertising agency.

As for Dirty Vegas & car commercials -- isn't that how half of America got introduced to them anyway? I know I hadn't heard of them at all until I heard "Days Go By" on that commercial.

In this case -- very, very good advertising agency. They get the cookie.

Dee the Lurker (Dee the Lurker), Thursday, 10 April 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, car companies are especially stupid to play Smashmouth songs because the band just funnels the royalties into anti-car terrorist organizations, which the band are well-known supporters of.

fletrejet, Thursday, 10 April 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

does anyone actually care about Dirty Vegas?
It's the song duuuuuudes. Isn't that the non-rockist thing?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 10 April 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, Moby ownz this thread.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Thursday, 10 April 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Moby would be my ideal dinner companion. I would feast on Wild Boar whilst he tucked into a plate of valves and flashing lights. After dinner, over port and cigars, we would peruse his corporate brochures and invite the ladies through to perform some human beatbox.

Johnny Jarvis, Thursday, 10 April 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Moby took the money he got from making car commercials and donated it to environmental causes. Then Chumbawamba did the same thing. So obv. Moby has left his mark among pretentious anarchist twats.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Thursday, 10 April 2003 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I worked at a record store last summer, and not one person bought Dirty Vegas without asking "so this has that song in the Mitsubishi commercial, right?". A lot of old ladies bought it, too.

Bobby D Gray (bedhead), Thursday, 10 April 2003 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Q: "When will car companies realize that having Smashmouth in their ads is dumb?"

A: When the song no longer helps sell cars.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 10 April 2003 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I wasn't planning on buying a Hyundai this month, but then I realized, you know what, I AM an all-star, and I WILL get my game on! Where do I sign?

Nick A. (Nick A.), Thursday, 10 April 2003 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

More Boredoms fun -- that's Yamasuka Eye yelling "SEGA!" in those early nineties ads.

in sonic the hedgehog where it's like SEEEEEGA! or the whispery fast one from the commercials?

A guy in my class was wearing a Smashmouth t-shirt yesterday. He also has a "Your Mom" patch on his backpack, and wears those snowboard winter hats from the 90's with all the like, tentacles on them. He's maybe 20.

CharlieS, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 18:58 (fourteen years ago)

Ned is that Yamatsuka Eye Sega thing for real?? I can't find anything about it on google.
