i'm talkin' 50's/60's doo-wop influence as in both harmony and/ or rhythm and tempo. who can you think of ?

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Friday, 11 April 2003 04:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Ween! (doubters check out "Up On the Hill" for proof)

Evan (Evan), Friday, 11 April 2003 04:10 (twenty-two years ago)

there's also a Flying Blind song caled Smokescreen on the American Pie 2 soundtrack that has a definite doo-wop influence especially the outro. check it.

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Friday, 11 April 2003 04:32 (twenty-two years ago)

flabbergasted

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Friday, 11 April 2003 04:46 (twenty-two years ago)

The Bees!

Sean@tangmonkey (Sean M), Friday, 11 April 2003 05:05 (twenty-two years ago)

allmusic says there a 70's new wave band. is this the same Bees? are u talkin about A Band Of Bees ?

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Friday, 11 April 2003 05:36 (twenty-two years ago)

This question is going to have to do some scraping. The only thing that even comes to mind is a track on the first Kingsbury Manx record.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 11 April 2003 05:38 (twenty-two years ago)

why don't we broaden it to indiepop bands with harmonies reminiscient of doo wop groups..

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Friday, 11 April 2003 05:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Or songs w/ Doo-wop in the title, like the Trembling Blue Stars "Doo Wop Music" which is very good.

marianna, Friday, 11 April 2003 08:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Gore Gore Girls. Though they're more 60s girl-group-sounding.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 11 April 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

That Dog? But, eh, not really.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 11 April 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Lambchop. I'm not kidding...but they seem to love ALL their influences anyway.

Neudonym, Friday, 11 April 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Doo wop requires a kind of vocal discipline that I'm not sure is a core aspect of much indie music these days (for better and for worse) but yeah, this is a good question.

(It's too bad Kingsbury Manx are so dull because they do have a nice breadth of influence.)

Amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 11 April 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

There was one Pansy Division song that was sort of their attempt at doo-wop.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 April 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess The Housemartins had a kind of doowop thing going at one point. But they are hardly contemporary.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 11 April 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Low's harmonies and tempo at times remind me of classic doo-wop ballads or even (my fave) the Ink Spots.

Curt (cgould), Friday, 11 April 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Er, Trembling Blue Stars "Doo Wop Music"?

flowersdie (flowersdie), Friday, 11 April 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Jonathan Richman

Chris Davis (Chris Davis), Friday, 11 April 2003 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr. Bungle's California is like doo-wop-core. In particular: "Sweet Charity", "Air-Conditioned Nightmare", "Pink Cigarette" and "Vanity Fair".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 11 April 2003 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh sorry, you said "indie". Pay no heed to my last suggestion; unless of course you're more interested in "doo-wop influence" than "indie"ness.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 11 April 2003 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

There's the Vines song 'I Must See You Again'

Alexis (Alexis), Friday, 11 April 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

in regards to songs with doo wop in the title, the High Llamas have a song called "Doo-Wop Property"

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Saturday, 12 April 2003 02:32 (twenty-two years ago)

all rap I guess...the only band that comes to mind isn't contemporary tho and thats the NYDolls

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Saturday, 12 April 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Van Halen "I'm the One"

dave q, Saturday, 12 April 2003 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

the middle part of stiff little fingers' 'barbed wire love'?

but how indie or contemporary are they.

brian badword (badwords), Saturday, 12 April 2003 23:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I totally second nickalicious's nomination of "California" by Mr. Bungle. Indie = no, doo-wop = yes. Plus it's a great fucking CD and you like Mike Patton anyway :)
