Hmm, six good songs (possibly seven but I can't remember what 'Scorpio Rising' sounds like) which is six more than could have been expected.

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 24 August 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

How many skaters listen to Busted?

Vik, Sunday, 24 August 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Hwo many skaters listen to The Electric Soft Parade?

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 24 August 2003 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I think we have a winner for least worst & least appropriate compilation album ever.
Can anyone possibly top that?

It's like someone asked Dr Fox to compile his idea of a punk album.

Vik, Sunday, 24 August 2003 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

surely there's gotta be some.

Speaking of skaters and rock and skater rock, the opening sequence of Stoked: The Rise and Fall of Gator with Naked Raygun's "I Don't Know" playing in the background gave me goosebumps.

hstencil, Sunday, 24 August 2003 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

That should have read :

i havent heard the rest of it!!!

trife (simon_tr), Sunday, 24 August 2003 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

This has all sorts of great songs on it. And nobody called forth the "punk" demon until Vik did. Besides, how are you so sure what skaters listen to? You don't even know, maaaan.

(my good sk8er friend thought Dots and Loops was the best album ever)

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Sunday, 24 August 2003 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

i think its quite funny that Eighties B-Line are followed by Maria Willson, but otherwise this is pretty much my idea of hell - bout 7 songs i like tho (but none i really want to hear...ever...again)

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 24 August 2003 21:00 (twenty-two years ago)

this has so much synthpop on it!!!

trife (simon_tr), Sunday, 24 August 2003 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

its probably a sign i need to leave ilm that i looked at the trac`klist and didnt even consider this would be a thread of ppl hating on it : (

trife (simon_tr), Sunday, 24 August 2003 21:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think you can skate to "Wherever You Will Go". And while there probably is some thirteen year old whiz kid who uses "Hero" as his theme song whilst pulling off fantabolous stunts, there's no need to encourage him.

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Sunday, 24 August 2003 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

and didnt even consider this would be a thread of ppl hating on it : (

where's those old thrasher sk8 comps from the 80's? that might be some source of old man "in my day..." hate...

msp, Sunday, 24 August 2003 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Holy shit! McRad! Skatemaster Tate! Yikes!

hstencil, Sunday, 24 August 2003 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I love the Coopers and Death in Vegas song. My girlfriend loves the, uh, Something Corporate song so I've grown to tolerate that one. The rest doesn't matter though.

colin zeal, Monday, 25 August 2003 01:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I had vols. 3, 5 & 6 of the Thrasher Sk8 Rock series. I loved them then, but would probably hate them now.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 25 August 2003 09:59 (twenty-two years ago)

What kind of Skater comp could skip "Possessed to Skate" by Suicidal Tendencies?
There's an entire genre of Skater punk and not a single track on this comp even comes from that era much less that genre.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Monday, 25 August 2003 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

that's coz they're selling CDs to ppl from *this* era!

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Monday, 25 August 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Then they should've call it "Not Really Sk8tr Rawk...just a bunch of Tunes that Have Nothing to do with Skate Music." or even better "Now Thats What I (don't) Call Skate Music! volume 0"

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Monday, 25 August 2003 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Why is 'No One Knows' by Queens of the Stone Age not on it? It'd fit really well between POD and Chad Kroeger.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Monday, 25 August 2003 11:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, maybe the Atari's cover of Boys of Summer should make it.

and Jody Foster's Army!!!

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 25 August 2003 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

this 2cd comp : skateboarding :: grind : skateboard movies

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 25 August 2003 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Bowling for Soup? What the hell is that?

Kate Silver (Kate Silver), Monday, 25 August 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

*wretching*

Emilymv (Emilymv), Monday, 25 August 2003 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

"Someone" is releasing old JFA recordings--studio?live? Anyone know?

Skate or 'bate! urk...

Stephen Boyle (SBoyle), Monday, 25 August 2003 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Alternative Tentacles has released Blatant Localism, a comp of the first ep, lp, live and other stuf...However, there was a skateboarding video game with a JFA song recently that I played, and I thought they were aging pretty poorly...

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 25 August 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

there are loads of good songs on this comp. plus, it's not for skateboarders. it's for SK8ERS. skaters are dirty and have bad knees and listen to boring stuff like dri. sk8ers are clean and cute and listen to stuff like that amazing wheatus song. i'm not even sure they own skateboards!

will g. (will g.), Monday, 25 August 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

LOL

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 25 August 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

where are the Stormtroopers of Death!

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 25 August 2003 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

and the Faction!

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 25 August 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

all the bands on this compilation are better than anythign that has ever been on alternative tentacles (with the exception of butthole surfers)

gareth (gareth), Monday, 25 August 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Mostly good choices, but how many skaters are brave enough to say they wipe away tears when they hear Hero?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 25 August 2003 19:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Noone would skate to this. Apart from maybe 13 year old girls.

Skater Boy, Monday, 25 August 2003 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 25 August 2003 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Looks pretty accurate for the modern skater, or at least the ones i know.

But do the average sk8rs listen to Cave-In and the Electric soft parade?

needs more rap music.

Andrzej B. (Andrzej B.), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 02:54 (twenty-two years ago)

needs some Royal Trux, if you believe High Fidelity

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 03:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Damnit where the hell is DRI!!!

Cacaman Flores, Tuesday, 26 August 2003 04:30 (twenty-two years ago)

i now call for a skateboarder uprising to unleash hellbeasts upon sk8rs, the obviously sub par stepbrother to the skateboarder.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 04:41 (twenty-two years ago)

my 8 year old son likes this album.

frenchbloke (frenchbloke), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 05:26 (twenty-two years ago)

There is a comp also out abt now (in the UK) with all yer Avril/POD/Funeral For A Friend type malarkey except interspersed with Black Flag and, yes, JFA. Weird and slightly cringeworthy. I can't remember the title. Sk8er Joi or something. Except not actually that. You can buy it in like Sainsburys and shit.

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 08:21 (twenty-two years ago)

My entire attention reading this thread has been distracted by the U&K question "would Trife like Busted?"

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 08:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Somebody email him an mp3. I predict "no" except for the one about fucking their schoolteacher...

But yeah, if I bought one rock album this year, it'd be this one...

Jacob (Jacob), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Best punk rock album of the year. I'd listen to it on my i-pod while i skate.

Tyrone, Tuesday, 26 August 2003 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

people should i-skate when playing i-pods

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)
