And what are they up to? Anyone in the know?

I think they did a show in the NY area just a few months ago. Either that or I'm hallucinating. I was in a band that did a show with the Mad Scene in Boston in 1992. Hamish Kilgour and Lisa drove me back to NY.David Newgarden works for some management concern.

Brian Turner to thread!

(They're still in New York. They play every so often. I am very happy that they still exist.)

Douglas (Douglas), Saturday, 12 April 2003 00:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Holy heck--it's Eisgrau! ROBIN!! So glad to see you here!

(I would like to add that I was ALSO in the band Robin mentions. Though she looked much cooler on stage.)

Ahoy, Douglas! You're the sweetest.

Details please. Photos of you two rocking the rock look 1992 appreciated.

I don't think there are any photos floating around of that show. My Guitar was red and white and my hair was well past my shoulders. I wore a black T-shirt that I sewed myself that was just the teensiest bit see-through. Bob Fay (who played drums for Sebadoh) played drums for us. We played a bunch of Fall songs, half of a Pavement song and a jam kinda dilapadated thing. It was great fun. We were called Nipple.

Oh, how I wish there were photos of that show. Our regular drummer had bailed like twelve hours before the show, & Bob learned the songs that afternoon in less time than it took to play them. There is a tape somewhere, and I won't even let my spouse listen to it. But yes, it was TOTALLY a blast.

Oh, yeah, the Mad Scene are still gigging. I've been playing guitar for some of the shows, Hamish & Lisa are constantly writing new songs. Their last release was a 7" on a Japanese label, several years ago, but hopefully some stuff is in the pipe. Lisa also plays with a local band called the Croutons, Hamish has a show next Friday at Free 103.9 space in Williamsburg duo with David Grubbs which should be very cool. Danny Tunic of Barbez, ex-Guvner and of many many other fine musical projects plays drums in the Mad Scene and the bass spot has been rotating for a while. Some of the new stuff sounds very unusual, one song sounds Kleenex-y, but lots of pretty drifty melodies and strummy goodness going on too.

Nice. I know they had that track on one of Douglas' recent DBC things. I hope to make it to see them someday. And I hope we don't have to wait too much longer for some sorta release.

When you have a group as diverse as Hamish Kilgour (The Clean), Lisa Siegel (Vegetarian), Steve Thornton (Go-To Guy), Georgia Hubley (Yo La Tengo), Gary Olsen (Straight Shooter), Josh Feldman (Professional Athlete), Cassie Tunick, Danny Tunick (Same Last Names!) and Brian Turner (WFMU Music Director), things can get sidelined when it comes to the studio. But eventually things fell into place and for their fourth long-player, the band enlisted Sonic Boom to produce and mix, then thrust the finished product into the waiting hands of the Siltbreeze label.

Listening to the clips now and getting excited. I had Sealight out just a week or two ago and wondered what was going on with them.

eleven months pass...

so i sat on this when it arrived for a month or three and am finally getting around to digging in. have to say that side 1 is up there with their best. really fantastic moods and melodies. side 2 maybe not as strong. sonic boom did a great job making them sound exactly like the mad scene. seek it, mad scene fiends.
