"King of a Lonely Castle"

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Saturday, 12 April 2003 07:20 (twenty-two years ago)

or "Hello Walls", heck I don't know, depends how drunk I am really.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Saturday, 12 April 2003 07:21 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yeah, depends on whether you're wallowing in YOUR OWN misery or SHARED misery. Either way, though, "Night Life" from his Country Willie Sings 64 or 65 album sends me there everytime.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Saturday, 12 April 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Whiskey River.

David Beckhouse (David Beckhouse), Saturday, 12 April 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Funny How Time Slips Away, probably - but I have more Willie Nelson than any other act, so this is unthinkable.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 12 April 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, picking one's impossible. "San Antonio Rose" with Ray Price. "Crazy Arms", also with Ray Price. "The Last Thing I Needed First Thing This Morning." "September Song".

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 12 April 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Patsy Cline alone has the honor of having recorded a version of a Willie song superior to his own version. But that's just cause she's Patsy Cline. Even Ray Price, a very finy country singer, could not do the justice to "Night Life" that Willie Could.

And you're right about it being impossible to pick only one. I just picked the song I was listening to at that minute. But the album went on, and I reconsidered my position with every track.

April 23, Willie will be 70. I urge everyone to celebrate accordingly. Whatever that means. Get drunk, I guess, while singing about how you gotta. Or maybe stop drinking and switch to pot.

Correction -- April 30 is his birthday. April 23 is World Book Day. Getting my holidays confused.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 13 April 2003 07:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Current favorite: "Pretend I Never Happened."

Celebrating Willie's 72nd today by listening to a couple dozen of his albums, the one that stood out was Sings Kristofferson, and "Please Don't Tell Me How the Story Ends" in particular.
