Ron, this may help you make up your mind, Blue Nile C or D.

hmm. so it doesn't sound like there are any similarities. the recommendations are glowing (the condemnations scathing), but seem to be largely from the anglophile section (no offense)- i would like to hear it, in any case

Slim Finney is Australian, Ron!!!

Cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 13 April 2003 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

i didn't mean that everyone who likes the band was from england

the blue nile and boards of canada sound totally, totally different. all i was trying to do was prompt people to take sides between "mysterious clusters of edinburgh-based technology fetishists that take a long time between albums"

yeah, i'm sorry if i've helped distract from the intention of yr thread. i was just curious to figure out what the blue nile was, after seeing them in the same sentence as BOC.

no worries! there has been some excellent writing about both these groups lately, so i thought i'd give it a go.

FoS, do you have any links to the excellent recent writing on the Blue Nile you've been reading lately?

Cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 13 April 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

;-) yeah, it's yours.

Ha, thanks. I wasn't fishing (for a change); I thought that maybe you been read Tim F's piece on skykicking and had maybe found some other stuff out there.

You should look out Chris Roberts (I think) on Hats in Uncut August 2001 if you can find it. It's a really good article. Besides that I'm stumped.

tim f's piece is gorgeous as well.

the blue nile is a band that has popped back into the collective consciousness/unconsciousness for what would initially seem like no reason at all. i'm thinking the blue nile is more relevant now than at any point since 1989 (or 1994 ... ...)

ned's comment about it "not sounding very 80's at all" hits the nail on the head.
