I'm really not sure what to say first about this.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 14 April 2003 00:24 (twenty-two years ago)

"We said 'gangsta', not 'GWAR'"???!

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 April 2003 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I fear for my lungs

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 14 April 2003 00:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I wonder if he sampled Cannibal Corpse on his album?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 14 April 2003 00:34 (twenty-two years ago)

ILM: We laugh at your death!

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 April 2003 00:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Bill O'Reilly's gonna jump all over this one

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 14 April 2003 00:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope he does release an album, and makes lots of puns alluding to this event on it.

David Allen, Monday, 14 April 2003 00:47 (twenty-two years ago)

jesus christ that's a disturbing story.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 14 April 2003 00:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Suge K. is like the stupidest motherfucker on the planet (mr. knight if you read this please don't kill me thank you).

Dan I., Monday, 14 April 2003 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

canibalizzle...

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Monday, 14 April 2003 02:30 (twenty-two years ago)

uh, no.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Monday, 14 April 2003 02:35 (twenty-two years ago)

to impress me he'll have to eat 50 cent's lung.

brian badword (badwords), Monday, 14 April 2003 03:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't want to expose myself as not being hard, but that gives the willies somethin' awful. The lung is bad enough... but he ate her face? What kind of drugs was he on? Some sort of Hannibal Lecter cocktail?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 14 April 2003 03:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Always remember -- there IS such a thing as bad publicity.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 14 April 2003 03:52 (twenty-two years ago)

This story takes my breath away

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Monday, 14 April 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Completely and utterly fucked. [Shakes her head. Barfs on lap.]

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 14 April 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

What kills me is that his MC Handle is "Big Lurch"...what kinda moron would name himself "Big Lurch"?

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Very disturbing story. Creepily enough, there was a rapper in Sacramento (CA) a few years back on a similar dark and demented trip. He posted lots of sadistic carve-kill-cannibalism lyrics on his website which were more like ghoulish disconnected schizy lines; but he ended up killing some one, too. He was arrested and charged, he didn't do much to run and hide, and was determined to be mentally ill. He had some weird rap name, Black Ghoul or something ...

bflaska, Monday, 14 April 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Although I'm generally opposed to its use, this is one of those cases where I think the death penalty really would be the right thing to do. And quickly. Like before this hits the evening news.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Just reading about this stuff is traumatizing. The person I was writing about above might have gone so far as to make a tape at home of himself flowing his rhymes, but that was pretty much it. Aspiring to be a rapper. The local press and police as I recall were able to distinguish between a mentally ill wannabee and dropped all reference to his connection to music or rap, which responsible. Sadly, they soon had another thing with Triple Sicx.

bflaska, Monday, 14 April 2003 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

No really...I really want to know: what kinda moron would name himself "Big Lurch"? Is he the Addams Family doorman when he's not bumpin' trunks.
And what kind of twit makes a meal out of a lung? Thats the filthiest organ in the body...even if you don't smoke and don't work in a chemical foundry, the lungs would taste like eating a big slab of sponge soaked in grungey sludge!

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

what kinda moron would name himself "Big Lurch"?

Well, the hiphop names are kinda in short supply. (50 fucking Cent fer chissakes.) Although IcePick may have been more appropriate. But all the names like 2cool and Xzite are so outdated. "LungChomp" could be the beginning of a new trend... So could "Gimick"...

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 14 April 2003 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Icy Kold Pankreaz!!!

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Monday, 14 April 2003 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

MC Gall Bladder (in a white wine sauce with shallots and truffles.)

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Monday, 14 April 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

This story has traumatized me. Last night I dreamt that rappers were stabbing me with forks.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 14 April 2003 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

what kinda moron would name himself "Big Lurch"?

Big Lunch, maybe? Anyone? Anyone?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 14 April 2003 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

you know i remember this guy from the RBL Posse cut a while back which also had Mystikal on it. i always thought he was relatively mellow.

Honda (Honda), Monday, 14 April 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Big Lunch, maybe? Anyone? Anyone?

Big Lung Lunch.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 14 April 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

DJ Lung Paté and the Organmeat Posse!

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Monday, 14 April 2003 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

you know i remember this guy from the RBL Posse cut a while back which also had Mystikal on it. i always thought he was relatively mellow.
Well, its the quiet ones ya gotta watch our for.
(and while yer watchin the quiet guy, the loud come charges in, stabs you and eats your liver. Which is bad. Someone could eat your lung and you can survive on only one lung. But you only have one liver.)

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Monday, 14 April 2003 18:37 (twenty-two years ago)

..(David Crosby to thread for testamonial..)

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 14 April 2003 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

It's getting late. Testimonial.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 14 April 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Leave me be! Melissa Etheridge wants more babies, so I'm booked for the rest of the week.

David Crosby (Lord Custos Epsilon), Monday, 14 April 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

"Bill O'Reilly's gonna jump all over this one"

i'm sure he will, if he hasn't already. but like most criticism of hip hop, this is anecdotal and about as reflective of hip hop in general as devil worshiping was of rock n' roll.

s>c>, Monday, 14 April 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Not that that's stopped anyone before....

Christine "Green Leafy Dragon" Indigo (cindigo), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

And the Satanic (and other kinds) Conspiracy people have already found out about this one.

Christine "Green Leafy Dragon" Indigo (cindigo), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

These acts were performed within the course and scope of his employment with the other defendants

Out of curiosity, could everyone take sides on how seriously they think this claim will be taken in court (and how valid they personally find it)? (Personally I think it's ridiculous but fear it might not be taken that way.)

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 14 April 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

sounds like a big load to me.

are there any rappers who have had commercial success with something as ghoulish as cannibalism in their lyrics? i'm not really familiar with eminem beyond a few singles - how far did he take his violent fantasies? i can think of a couple rappers like necro or kool keith who have that kind of content but it seems unlikely the prosecution would claim death row was trying to emulate their chart success.

maybe they can claim big lurch was trying to crossover into that highly coveted "satanic rock" market?

brian badword (badwords), Monday, 14 April 2003 21:37 (twenty-two years ago)

on the other hand, i did download a couple big lurch mp3s last night, so the buzz is working!

brian badword (badwords), Monday, 14 April 2003 21:37 (twenty-two years ago)

... bet Gang Starrs 'Just To Get A Rep' was on repeat on his cd player that night ... And wouldn't 'Big Splurge' be a more fitting name for this poor and misguided young man???

Jay K (Jay K), Monday, 14 April 2003 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe they can claim big lurch was trying to crossover into that highly coveted "satanic rock" market?

I was wondering if anyone had yet tried a goth-rap crossover.

As for the lawsuit, does anyone think the record label seriously gave this guy drugs in order to get him to do something XtReEeEeM?

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 14 April 2003 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe he was just trying to suck the crack smoke from her lung tissue

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Monday, 14 April 2003 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Thats harsh, dude.

Read closer, Nate, the question asked for "commercial".

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 01:18 (twenty-two years ago)

but they're like 007 and Man From UNCLE!

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

esham!

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 01:22 (twenty-two years ago)

"..how seriously they think this claim will be taken in court (and how valid they personally find it)?"

Claim seems like a fairly transparent attempt to pull the record label into the case and thus make much more cash than would otherwise be possible. Assuming Suge still has enough dough to pay decent lawyers, I doubt it would go anywhere.

Ben Williams, Tuesday, 15 April 2003 01:43 (twenty-two years ago)

(Also: how many months before this is on Law and Order?!)

Ben Williams, Tuesday, 15 April 2003 01:45 (twenty-two years ago)

haha!

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 01:46 (twenty-two years ago)

(Or, even better, Platinum!)
