y'know, like panned now (or lately) but for whatever reason will be considered the good stuff?

Like maybe in ten years, Victoria Beckham's solo alb will sound good (assuming of course that Romero's zombie movies come true and we've all had our brains eaten)...

NOTE: This is a tongue-in-cheek thread.

Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy - "Hypocrisy is the Greatest Luxury"
In a genuinely fair, honest and just world, thi album would be mentioned in the same breath as "Low End Theory", "3 Feet High and Rising" and "Straight Outta Compton"

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Monday, 14 April 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Andrew W.K. will become a cult classic, but critics nowadays know that so they always seem on the fence- "hahaha, this is great but no, not really" kinda attitude.

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Monday, 14 April 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs

*ducks, runs away waving fist.*

They've been too redeemed already! ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 14 April 2003 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

O, when will Deadsy get their due?

Fivvy (Fivvy), Monday, 14 April 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

A Record That Changed My Life
Jamie Lynn Spears on "Just Enough Education To Perform" by Stereophonics

It changed min too. I'm scarred for life.

Spin Doctors are on the verge of a comeback with an album (i've heard the rushes) that takes what Radiohead did with OK Computer and Americanizes it and then takes it three long strides forward.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 14 April 2003 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

To oblivion.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 14 April 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

It's hard to tell, because I believe future critical redemption depends on future artistic growth or future commercial success (or both). Take Korn, for instance. Their first two albums were ignored by critics despite being underground successes. When they broke big with Follow The Leader, many critics went back to the first two albums and were generally positive about them. Now we consider Korn to have been at the forefront of the nu-metal explosion in the late 90s. Love them or hate them, there's no doubt that they've been an incredibly influential band.

Nick Mirov (nick), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Good Charlotte. DUH.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 14 April 2003 20:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Blink 182

Mike Ouderkirk (Mike Ouderkirk), Monday, 14 April 2003 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

HA!

Fat fuckin' chance!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 April 2003 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Their first two albums were ignored by critics despite being underground successes.

Are you seriously considering two albums that, after massive marketing campaigns by Sony, sold 500,000+ each an "underground success"?

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 14 April 2003 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

With respect, Custos, you are completely mental.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Monday, 14 April 2003 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Sundar...you JUST figured that out NOW?
Anyhow. I still say DHH is great. Its a gateway drug. I got my uncle (who used to pooh-pooh hip-hop in general) to rethink his position after listening to DHH.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 00:35 (twenty-two years ago)

disposable heroes were totally overwhelmed with praise when their records came out, all of it undeserved.

keith (keithmcl), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 00:38 (twenty-two years ago)

but they speak so WELL!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 00:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Michael Franti may have had awkward flow, but his rhymes were interesting and clever. Towa Tei may have been weird...but on the plus side...he was weird. Its a shame he didn't add more vocals (live versions and singles version of their songs had Towa cold lampin' like a Japanese Flava Flav, The LP versions are just Franti by himself.)

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 00:41 (twenty-two years ago)

and most of the grief they got came from other Rappers who were pissed because of the song "Amos and Andy", which struck a little too close to home. THATS where most of the negative press came from.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 00:42 (twenty-two years ago)

right...

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 01:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Towa Tei?!?!? Haha was the guy from Dee-Lite actually in this band or is Custos just confusing as usual?

(PS, DHH sucked live and on record. Well meaning, but frankly dull as fuck.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 01:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Towa Tei weren't no Disposable Hero

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 01:09 (twenty-two years ago)

he speaks of Rono Tse.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 01:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Tse, Tei, what's the difference?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 01:15 (twenty-two years ago)

That's what Kathie Lee Gifford said when she asked Michael Stipe about his book of Patti Smyth photographs.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 01:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I prefer what Regis told him: "I'm digging the eyeshadow."

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 01:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Blink 182 are ALREADY critically redeemed.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 03:42 (twenty-two years ago)

...is Custos just confusing as usual?
Yes. I is confooosed. Anthony Miccio is right: Michael Franti's pet Flava was named Rono Tse.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

So then what happens when Blink 182 start sucking, Sterling?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

hopefully people stop talking about them.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

We can but pray.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

the rapture's here already then

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Praise the lord.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyway, the correct answer was Right Said Fred, you all lose.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Have we mentioned KYUSS?! I know they're defunct now but "Welcome To Sky Valley" really ought to be in the critical canon!

KYUSS KYUSS KYUSS!!!!!!!!!!!
