Vic Twenty vs Client, possibly

Are these the feeblest and most hackneyed scrapings from the bottom of the electropop barrel, or nu!ish sparkling synthy majesty which should be greeted with bunting and toothy grins? Most specifically the recent singles by each ("Txt Msg" and "Price Of Love" respectively) neither of which I've managed to hear yet and both of which I'd really like to love, but am exercising caution.

How do they compare to the likes of Ladytron/Soviet, etc? All guidance much appreciated.

Vic Twenty are cute

Okay, right, I thought Client were a bit duff but I've downloaded about half the album and while it doesn't do anything planet-quakingly unexpected it is wondrous wistful bitter fizzling sparkly and blunted and all northern-windswept-electroscorn and things. And when Sarah Blackwood says "aren't you baby" she doesn't sound like herself at all, but in a good way.

Does anyone have an opinion on this album? Are Vic Twenty doing anything noteworthy at the moment? Etc etc etc?

I don't know anything about Vic Twenty, but the side project (well Angela from Vic Twenty's other band) are fun. They're called the Zoltan Kodaly School for Girls, and they play pop songs on the recorder. The highlight of their set is a great cover of Je T'aime.

oh it IS Sarah Blackwood then - the press release only refers to them as Client A and Client B, presumably for purposes of mystique, but all the way through I did keep thinking Dubstar-gone-electro.

Client are OK. Nothing earth-shattering, though it is quite interesting to hear some electroclash which aspires to neither glacial continental cool nor Fischerspooner-esque glamour.

The one who isn't Sarah Blackwood is Alan McGee's wife who used to be in Technique and maybe Frazier Chorus (I think, unless that was a different wife, but I don't think it was).

The same Alan McGee's wife who kept popping up on dance records everywhere because she was Alan McGee's wife, all uniformly shite? Dear me.

No. I don't think it is. Client are pretty good.

I am liking what I've heard of the new Client album very much and am quite surprised by this. Some of it is very colossal and the electro-ness no longer seems to be the most important thing about them or the big selling-point. I would like to know if other people are finding it fairly great too, or not.

Definitely an improvement from their debut, although they still kind of grate my ears on the faster, robotic material. The slow and midtempo tracks are great.

Client's new album = meh sadly. 'Lights Go Out', 'It's Not Over' and 'Monkey On My Back' maybe the best tracks but it all seems to lack the oomph of Xenomania despite being generally darker/colder than their style. could stand to sound harder and not so generic/formulaic.

this is apropos of nothing, really, there's no new music that I'm aware, but I just heard the demo version of "Monkey on My Back" for the first time and god, if you've heard the original, this is downright sadistic, in that you keep expecting the chorus and it never arrives
