Definitely - but it'd have to be nearer to Bristol, not London.

Metro Area are Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani. They're from New Jersey/NYC. Morgan owns their label Environ. Their initial 4 12" singles were runaway underground hits all over the world. DO NOT MISS THEM LIVE - especially with the string section - I brought them out to San Francisco for their first live gig there and it was easily the best thing I saw all last year -- think a stripped, funkier New Order meets boogie disco in a full-on dub soundclash. Plus watching the two of them perform was INCREDIBLY INTERESTING (when was the last time you saw *that* said about an dance music act?). What else do you need to know?

They've got a track called "muira" or something...that is totally incredible

I think it has an opera singer on it...sounds like a terrible concept...but it totally works

yes it is nice.

That's Dei Lewison -- daughter of Woody Cunningham (Kleeer).

The Metro Area album, a compilation of all the 12"s (with Muira) is out now - and it's fucking awesome.... really worth getting - every track's a classic.

Yeah my girlfriend loves that record and I've had to grudgingly admit it's pretty good...

Jacob (Jacob), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the good tracks are great, but as an entire album it's not tremendous. Caught Up and Miura are still far and away better than anything else on it, though Pina is great too.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 09:19 (twenty-two years ago)

funnily enough i like miura least of all on the album

yeah, i just saw darshan jesrani spin last friday. i wish i could say it was great but it was at a really cheesy deep house night and he spun really cheesy sub-perlon sort-of-microhouse. he didn't spin anything on environ; i don't think he really spun anything on the list of favorite producers he named (maybe one weak theo parrish track as a warmup). well, okay, he spun a cool mix of "clear", but ...
