I like Pinback and I like Land Of The Loops/Slabco folk in general, therefore I would also like...

...(fill in the blank for me)

(for example: I didn't mind at all what I heard from that Jimmy Tamborello/Ben from Deathcab electronic pop collab.. never a big Strictly Ballroom nor Death Cab For Cutie fan..)

(and I like Len's "Steal My Sunshine" a lot)

The Notwist

The Andrea True Connection

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 18:15 (twenty-two years ago)

So... we're talking mellow, groovy indie, kinda? I second the Notwist rec, and add Prefuse 73, Hood, +/-, and maybe American Analog Set.

Nick Mirov (nick), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

the new Manitoba record.

Broken Social Scene.

I third the Notwist and second the Hood.

Optiganally Yours. Which is Rob Crow from Pinback and orchestration that sounds like Land of the Loops... their first record (Spotlight On) is totally wonderful.

Douglas (Douglas), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Am I the only one alive who hates the new Manitoba?

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

big ditto to Optigonally Yours, their song on the Powerpuff Girls sndtrk was great

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Nascar Wilde: you are donut bitch and I claim my ten dollars. (At least in terms of Pinback/Slabco love.)

Let me echo Optigonally Yours praise.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh. optiganally yours! yes!

Sean@tangmonkey (Sean M), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I would have said Sukpatch and Explosion Robinson but I think they're probably included under the Slabco umbrella.

Kitty Craft would be a good follow-up. Lemme think about the question for a bit...

The Sea and Cake, especially from The Fawn until now.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i remember when i first heard steal my sunshine, i though it was what volume all-star would sound like spiffed up for the radio waves :-)

ron (ron), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 23:33 (twenty-two years ago)

i recommend sukpatch-haulin grass and smokin ass if you don't already have it.

beaty (beaty), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

jm (jtm), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 01:50 (twenty-two years ago)

But I kid.

jm (jtm), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 01:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Savin All My Love 4 u (Savin 4ll my (heart) 4u), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 02:10 (twenty-two years ago)

You might check out stuff on the Static Caravan and Tomlab labels.

Mark (MarkR), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 02:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Mm, yeah - The Books record.

Sean@tangmonkey (Sean M), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 02:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I was listening to Erlend Oye's Unrest today and thought it sounded a bit like the Postal Service (except more Euro-club-funky, perhaps). Could also be a possible recommendation...

Nick Mirov (nick), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 02:38 (twenty-two years ago)

some Kitty Yo stuff might be of interest too. Maximilian Hecker for instance

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 02:39 (twenty-two years ago)

This might be obvious, but get the CD with both Heavy Vegetable albums on it, it's good. In fact, that CD is made for today, one of the most beautiful sunny April days London and I have ever seen. Except I'm stuck in an office.

Bit harder to find, but even better. Try and find anything by a band called POWERDRESSER, Denver Lucas, RIP, should've been San Diego's math rock answer to Syd Barrett.
