Desperately seeking Susan Moonsie from Vanity 6

Maybe not desperately, but whatever happened to her? Moonsie was the black girl in both Vanity 6 and its follow-up trio, Apollonia 6 (both Prince satellite groups from the early to mid Eighties). She wrote and sang Make Up on the (great) V6 album, which was recently covered by The Soft Pink Truth. She also wrote and sang Ooo She Wa Wa, the only decent track on the A6 album. Both are tense, new wave electro pop songs from someone who should have done more music, I say. An unsung heroine of the Minneapolis funk axis, anyway... :-)

Google is of no help

I was going to get the Vanity 6 LP on eBay, but ended up finding it finally at a used store. I think I paid under $10 for it, but it certainly isn't easy to find. Love that "Star Corporation"! Even his most tossed-off material was fab.

I just realized I said was and not is... oh well, he's still a goddam genius.

I have the LP but sadly its back in the US with all my other records. was hoping to just order the CD (till I saw the fuckin' price!)

I didn't even see the Vanity solo album with "Pretty Mess" on Amazon (another piece o' vinyl I have sitting thousands o' miles away)

and 'was' is acceptable, the Prince is still a 'goddam genius' he has fallen off in recent years - no matter what some ppl say

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

H (Heruy), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

ha! i actually have this record, must pull it out.

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

"nasty girl" alone makes it worthwhile

H (Heruy), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 22:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I have both the Vanity 6 AND Vanity solo albums (vinyl). Don't even love 'em that much. If you guys are seriously nuts I'd consider giving them up for the right price ($140 sounds like WAY too much for my blood). E mail me, if you're totally overboard. Note: I won't be online again 'til tomorrow (Thursday, 7 pm EST). Whatta world!

Vanity 6 LPs are not worth much, it's the CDs that extraordinarily valuable, for whatever reason. You can probably find the vinyl albums for a couple of bucks in a used record store if you poke around long enough.
