I am annoyed

Because i just heard Merzbow's 'Degredation of Tapes' for the first time and it sounds EXACTLY like some noise i made yesterday. Now i feel all dirty and guilty like i've plagiarised some canonic noize nazi and i'm not the dynamic, zesty genius i thought i was.

So, what pieces of music have you heard that sound very similar to pieces of music you yourselves have made with yr own hands, after you've made said music?

A whole album Pan American made called "The River Made No Sound" sounds freakishly like a track I made a year or so ago. It's quite a distinctive sound too, strange that two people should chance on it...

...unless they have spies.

I accidentally wrote an Apples in Stereo song almost note for note three or four years after a friend played me the album.
I guess the melody just stuck in my head.

The White Album. The whole thing. I was really excited about "Deer Prudents," too, 'til I found out someone had already done something just like it. I was so depressed I didn't write anything for a month. I got over it, though. Now I'm working on something I really like, called "Blood on the Trax."

first time I heard Chrome I was aghast, we had totally been using their beats for a year or two.

Yeah, I recently made an entire album that sounded completely like my big idols from the NYC 1970ies scene. But I thoought: "To hell with it!", and got it published anyway. Some people actually bought it!

I recently was accused by fans of a particular artist of totaly ripping him off. - They were wrong but it was funny.

So I am fooling around, and I decide to screw four-tracking, screw overdubbing, and I go back to recording me and my acoustic guitar. And what's more, I decide to record onto my handheld tape recorder. I love the lofi hissy sound and the way it reshapes the guitar and it does good things to the mix as well. I am happy with this newfound simple way of doing things.

About a month or two later, I discover the Mountain Goats.

I had this juvenile band in middle school that wrote silly songs about disgusting things; usually about kids we didn't like in the school who were incapable of beating us up should they hear the tapes we gave out (a small percentage of the school population, really). One of our songs sounded just like some old Devo song off of Hardcore Devo vol. 2 ("Fountain of Filth" I think), which surprise surprise, is a song from when Dveo were young'ns making silly songs about disgusting things.

I had this guitar part in one of my old band's songs that, when I bought their singles comp, I discovered sounded note for note just like a VSS guitar riff (if you can have a riff that's mostly harmonics). I would have been more annoyed if we'd ever played more than two shows or released the recordings we made...
