This is the thread where ILM makes an arguement for why popular music should never, ever be linked to selling sex or any form of sexual fantasy...(caution - nudity)

A thread on Emma Bunton's new video is hijacked and turned upside down because, although Emma is selling herself as a sexual fantasy in the video, talk of this is uncalled for.

So, I call on ILM, to speak about the seperation of sex from popular music, as I was not aware that this had taken place and now feel the need to be informed as to why music should be treated as an asexual commodity.

Calum, Wednesday, 16 April 2003 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Calum, it's not that anyone objects to actual, insightful discussions of sexuality w/r/t popular music. But your threads amount to little more than, "Pretty hot, huh? I'd like to do her!" And even if we agree, "Yes, she is pretty hot," that doesn't make for good conversation. I guess I'm not sure what exactly you want out of the threads you start -- 100 posts with guys going "Slobber, slobber!" ??

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

(Also, I don't even know half of these British chix you're usually yammering on about.)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 19:37 (twenty-two years ago)

If you look at any thread of mine Pasmina has hijacked you'll see that the spectre of Mary Whitehouse still looms large. I like to think that even one of my threads gets under his skin (and evidently it has) then I'm doing alright.

Calum, Wednesday, 16 April 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

go on. git. go on. git.

Sonny Tremaine (Sonny), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

you know what Calum? your threads only really started to irritate me when i realized you WEREN'T some slackjawed yahoo, via your fairly well-considered film posts on ILE. people don't call you a troll because of the content of any one thread, but because you persist with them when you know perfectly well what the reaction will be. you've been here long enough to know that the 'valiantly railing against the pseud-lib pc 0ppressor' pose is a complete cop-out and doesn't actually reflect ILX's attitude anyway - see your own comments about kate's posts - so why not just accept the fact that collectively ILX seems to have agreed to go without the p.3 content they're bombarded by daily elsewhere and concentrate on the things you DO like here? it's not as if there's nowhere else for you to go for quality smut talk.

(and yes ok we get it: you've read kristeva and have found something there to get behind. congratulations! why hasn't it occured to you that other people may have investigated this stuff too and reached different conclusions? that the amount of different ppl/perspectives there are to accomodate around here might make the level of debate on say sex issues MORE sophisticated, not less? do you honestly put so much stock in lad-mags that you believe their take on sex is some divine revelation that's going to unshackle us from narrowmindedness?? LOOK AROUND YOU MAN - the 'anti-pc' stance is like the most ass-backward mainstream reactionary frightened conservative line ever, especially now after fucking YEARS of it)

(not sure why you've decided it's pashmina dogging you on that white stripes thread, but to get indignant about that after all your name-calling and insistent trolling is a bit rich, don't you think? your serious threads might eventually be taken seriously if you made an effort to not slip into Maxim-hissyfit-mode every time someone disagreed with you)

Sonny, I'm really thankful for the free advertising for the mag! Keep it up...

Calum, Wednesday, 16 April 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

he's no friend of mine - he's a boring, pseudo-intellectual shrill, reactionary MORON. and probably smells like pee from all the time spent in his bathroom.

i find his explanations of his tedious masturbatory threads, more tedious, more pseud-intellectual, than his usual 'calum robert waddell thinks geri helliwell was better with bigger tits' threads - which pop up with the frequency and sleaziness of hard-ons at a peep show on the main strip.

Sonny you presume too much.

Funnily enough, I just find you tragic. I hope you are doing okay though. I have a picture of you trying to cyber with strangers online, which I hope is untrue. I'm sure you speak to girls now and again right?

Calum, Wednesday, 16 April 2003 20:10 (twenty-two years ago)

dont make me get my Photoshop out

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Mental note: Never use the keyboard at Calum's place.

Calum: Me masturbating on my keyboard is a perfectly reasonably reaction and is justified in the sexually free times of the pop music of the earlier 90s where Atomic Kitten, being the first band that I blew my load to, whilst in a fit of intellectual stimulation by reading the back covers of all of my Derrides novels. Of course I also remember how unreasonably large their bums were. Per say, is this yadda yadda yadda... (Read: A boring moron who jerks off and writes horror movie reviews - you are not alone, Calum, but shit man, I don't want to be confronted with it everytime I read ILX. Is there not a Dario Argento film convention where the rest of the boring morons have a circle jerk or something to Asia's picture?)

Go on. Git.

Sonny Tremaine (Sonny), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Best fite EVAH!

"You're a lonely geek hanging out on the internet."

"No, YOU'RE a lonely geek hanging out on the internet."

"No, YOU are."

"No, YOU are!"

(Time lapse photography of the sun going up and down, the seasons changing, etc.)

Marcel Post (Marcel Post), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't care if I am a lonely geek hanging out on the internet. I don't care if lonely geeks hang out on the internet. But fuck man, having to put up with a lonely geek's consistently creepy fuck fantasties is getting on my tits.

Marcel Post == Jesus.
Bow down before his august glory.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Kristeva is hot.

Ha ha... other fit female theorists Calum?
Calum: I'd do that Andrea Dworkin bird... might make her lighten up a bit...

No seriously Calum, music is all about sex/repression of sex... It's all about that duality of sublimation-release in much of the music I like and within pop, sex has always been used as a marketing tool. however, what has Jo Guest got to do with that and how are posts like the last one going to lead to any kind of meaningful debate about these themes (still think the phil collins one was funny, though)

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

From Calum's Emma Bunton Thread:

"I must admit, turn the sound down, and you have a new side of Ms Bunton - she's hot, she's horny, and she's wet and wiggling about in tight blue undies! Mmmm!"

Hmmm...

ss, Wednesday, 16 April 2003 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

1) I've never blown my wad to Atomic Kitten
2) Dario Argento fans are a wide ranging sort, the NFT did a whole season on his films for example. However, I would argue that his most recent films have been hugely disappointing and, thus, probably would not attend such a ficitonal 'fest' if one were to exist. However, I don't find Asia so attractive with all her tatoos to be honest.

Sonny - the fact remains: you have sinister ideas about strangers on the internet, wishing them to be the gang rapist of your perverted and dangerous fantasies. I actually think there is something more sinister about this chap, I strongly believe he is unable to communicate with 'real' people and instead has umpteen subscriptions to various +|-|/-\¡ k¡|)|)y |=¡|)|)|_¡|\|G 5¡+3Z. Someone should report his IP number to 0p3r4ti0n or3!

Actually, I just did!

Arggghhh! Is that you're front door Sonny?

(post moderated at the request of the recipient of the above flame. please remember that everything you post on ilx winds up in google's database, and be a bit more bloody careful)

Calum, Wednesday, 16 April 2003 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

The irnoy is it's not me posting the semi-nude (and very cute) pics of Miss Bunton... and, thus, Sonny is actually getting all sweaty and worked up over the wrong postee as far as these threads go! I'm sure he's dying to cry 'conservative assault on the senses' to whomever is posting these pics.

I bet Sonny gets up and leaves night clubs because he blows his wad whenever he sees a bare ankle. The song of the repressed is sung by Sonny, somewhere in his lonely room...

Calum, Wednesday, 16 April 2003 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

No, I'm laughing at the irony of you spelling irony wrong. I sort of stopped reading there. Bored now. And out of ideas. You are a one note act, Calum.

Sonny Tremaine (Sonny), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 20:39 (twenty-two years ago)

The song of the repressed is sung by Sonny

Dude, the song of the repressed is calling everyone else repressed while making cum jokes. What you need is a cock in the ass.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 20:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Calum - if you wrote about sex - like Selby or Miller or Genet - than, than - I would be interested - hanging off each sexy word. As it stands, you are not talented. You are not interesting. You are boring. You clutter up the board. No one like it. But you insist - like some crusader of 'free speech'. No. You persist because you are either thick or an egotist. I am inclined to believe the latter.

Sonny Tremaine (Sonny), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 20:52 (twenty-two years ago)

What if we was just a thick egotist?

sorry, haven't checked that google link yet -- Calum seems a lot like those guys in that BBC documentary "The Office" -- isn't he [(no sex, we're) British] ? is he actually one of those Christian-baiting sys-admin guys or one of their artificial intelligence programs ?

conjecture aside, I agree with what "jones" said

george gosset (gegoss), Wednesday, 16 April 2003 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I really would appreciate my name removed from this thread. If we're being fair and Sonny can make his complaints then I would rather not be Googled and have people find some of the stuff on here.

Thanks in advance

Cal.um, Thursday, 17 April 2003 00:13 (twenty-two years ago)

so you're name really is Calum R0b3rt W/-\dd3ll?

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 17 April 2003 00:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I also find it funny that Sonny slags off my haphazard spelling mistake yet talks of 'Derrides' and his last post is littered with trite spelling.

And nice to see the class war mentality. Only those well read should speak of sex you heathen! The irony being that I AM well read, very well read in fact, but not so arrogant that I would assume this means only I should speak about sex. It's one subject that stretches across all class boundaries and I find Sonny's assumption over who can and can't address the subject patronising and offensive. But then he's a product of Thatcher's Britain which is very, very evident...
